Description
Four Winds joined the burgeoning BC craft beer scene and opened their doors to a public thirsty for new local offerings on June 1, 2013. Owned, operated and built from the ground up by the Mills family and friends, we are inspired by the Four Winds in gathering flavours from around the world to create our unique West Coast and European styles. We take great pleasure in the application of new world innovations while staying true to old world techniques. Motivated by the limitless potential of beer, as well as the great brewers who came before us, we aim to craft bold beers with character, depth, and balance.

Pale with chill haze and a thin head. Lots of hop on the nose, a bit of allium, mild bitterness, again some sulphur, lowish bitterness especially for “west coast” pils. Ends up okay. Just need more bitterness on this.

Amber, bright, medium head. Toasty nose, crystal malt is bright, excellent expression, I mean there are other malts in there too. Pommelo, dark crusty bread, mint, complex hop. Medium bitterness. One of the best 5% red ales I’ve ever had.

355 ml can. Pours a dark brown with full bubbly head. Aromas of salt, plastic and roasted malts. Flavors of same with additional metallics. Not really much there and can’t really every get much nitro. Drinkable, but unrepeatable.

473 ml can. Pours a dark brown with full foamy tan head. Aromas of creamy coffee, marzipan, dull chocolate and roasted malts. Flavors of creamy coffee, lactose, dry milk chocolate, some undefined hops and roasted malts. Seems to be creamy and dry at the same time. Interesting; a definite step up from a big milk stout but nowhere near a great Imperial Stout IMHO.

473ml can. Pours a hazy yellow with a medium, foamy, short lived, white head that laces nicely. Sweet fruity aroma of bready wheat malt, white grapefruit, peach, earthy yeast and floral hops. Sweet fruity flavour of bready wheat malt, white grapefruit, green grape, peach, earthy yeast and piney hops in a dry, bitter finish. Medium body with an oily texture and average carbonation. Juicy and tasty.

473mL can. Pours black with a beige head. Dry brown sugars and toasted bread on the nose. Flavour has a rich roasted malt profile, very bready, some nuts, some dry caramel. Very nicely put together imperial stout, great malt expression.

355mL can, pours black with a medium tan head. Aroma has faint roast, a touch of bitter cocoa, maybe a touch of brine if I strain. Flavour is much the same, with bitter cocoa, light-to-moderate roast, and a hint of briny character. Very light-bodied, finishing with roast. Simple, light, session stout.

Poured from 473mL can (pkg 30/10/25). Dark brown with full light tan head. Dry cocoa powder, dark sugars, relatively roasty. As a non-adjunct impie, it's fairly decent, but not a home run - it's just a touch powdery.
