Description
Four Winds joined the burgeoning BC craft beer scene and opened their doors to a public thirsty for new local offerings on June 1, 2013. Owned, operated and built from the ground up by the Mills family and friends, we are inspired by the Four Winds in gathering flavours from around the world to create our unique West Coast and European styles. We take great pleasure in the application of new world innovations while staying true to old world techniques. Motivated by the limitless potential of beer, as well as the great brewers who came before us, we aim to craft bold beers with character, depth, and balance.

Definitely a big weed smell. Kind of finishes in a little too much green onion. I guess that's better than coughing out after a big puff. Murky yellow pour with decent head. The smell is certainly better than the taste. Can.

On tap at Darby's. Pours black with a beige head. Lots of burnt sugars, roasted malts, and charred wood on the nose. Flavour has decent roast, dark sugars, burnt caramel, some charred wood, and boozy (bourbon?) finish. A bit too rough on the finish, but still quite nice.

473mL can, pours a mostly clear hazy blonde with a medium white head. Nose is almost more like an IPA, with big piney hops, plenty dankness, a bit of citrus peel, and crisp biscuity malt. Flavour is more pils-like, with piney hops, some dankness, grassy hops, and crisp crackery malt. Generously hopped, balanced well, and drinkable, though it is a bit seltzery. Good pils.

On tap at Darby’s, pours black with a small tan head. Nose is full of robust roasted malt, big charred, woody oak, maybe some spirit (although I can’t say which), and a toxic of burnt sugars. Flavour is bold, with a nice roasted malt base, then the barrels kicks in — must be some sort of spirit or liqueur that combines with the oak/bourbon character. There’s some burnt sugars that are well-attenuated. Comes together reasonably well. Solid.

Pale purple of butterfly pea, mouthfeel of lactose. A touch of blackberry/ tayberry on the nose. I think there’s vanilla as well. Cherry. They asked if I had allergies, but that was probably a feint unless they were referring to lactose. Anyway, it wasn't that good. Too much vanilla.

Bright pale pink, hazy, lots of raspberry flavouring, a bit jammy but blends into the base well. Not a direction I favour because it reduces the complexity of the original but it’s fine.

Pale and hazy. Soft brett, a light barrel accent. It’s more rounded than the original. Good complexity.

Pale, hazy. They all look identical. Thin head. Cucumber mainly not so much mint. It just sits overtop of the regular, but mutes it a bit. Sort of incongruous.

Hazy pale. The apricot isn’t obviously dries but it does give a bright fruity boost to this.

Pale and hazy. Jalapeño is evident, lime maybe, tequila or at least some tequila barrel usage here. Good balance and decently made for a not good concept.
