Description
Four Winds joined the burgeoning BC craft beer scene and opened their doors to a public thirsty for new local offerings on June 1, 2013. Owned, operated and built from the ground up by the Mills family and friends, we are inspired by the Four Winds in gathering flavours from around the world to create our unique West Coast and European styles. We take great pleasure in the application of new world innovations while staying true to old world techniques. Motivated by the limitless potential of beer, as well as the great brewers who came before us, we aim to craft bold beers with character, depth, and balance.

Bottle from the LCBO. Pours a cloudy yellow, with a large white head. Aroma is tart, and savoury with an up front briny aroma. The tequila made the base beer very savoury, almost kosher pickle like. It's earthy, but there are hints of lemon zest and mint. The barrel really dominated here and made an odd beer. I think the base beer was too delicate for this application.

Hazy orange, huge, frothy, sticky, white head. Tropical fruit, lots of yeast, subtle spice, and citrus zest. Sticky, highly hopped, slightly oily mouth feel, with a solid carb. The finish has a medium bitterness, soft spice and some lightly soapy, zesty, fruity esters in the end. Quite nice.

Dark orange pour, huge white head. Strong tropical fruit aroma, lots of yeast, light metals, and slight citrus and spice. The bitterness is kept in check, there are hints of some funk in here also. More spice, and some green, citrusy hops. This reminds me alot of a belgian strong more than a saison, but still quite good.

On cask at Cask Days 2013.
Hazy golden pour, small white head, Light aroma of citrus hops, but the lemon grass imparts a very strong almost artificial lemon aroma. Its not completely unpleasant, but odd. The carbonation was good, and the mouthfeel was good for the style. The finish was medium bitter, with a big lemon kick, with some light grass, and some honey.

Poured from 473mL can (pkg 30/01/2025). Clear amber gold with minimal white head. Mild cherry, feint bugs, feint yogurt, medium dry. Okay.

Dark brown with a medium head. Rather chocolatey aroma so nothing like a Baltic porter. On the palate, though, there's some of the correct character, more liquoricey notes and a fair bit of fruitiness, with some alcohol late.

473mL can. Pours black with a beige head. Cheap bourbon up front followed by roasted malts on the nose. Flavour profile is very similar. There's a nice roasty stout as a base, but it's ruined by cheap bourbon. Full body, mouthfeel is a bit slick. Disappointing.

Opaque, yellow, not much head. Has some bright stone fruit hop and the galaxy in particular stands out. On the palate, it has moderate bitterness. The hop stone fruit thing is still there, but it's pretty chalky, lots of hop burn. A touch of malt sweetness but I'd say not enough. There's some civilized elements here but it's not as refined or bright as I prefer. It's fine.

0.473l can, courtesy of CanCrusher. Aroma of stone fruit, tropical fruit, melon, bubblegum, vanilla and citrus. Pours cloudy dark straw color with large soapy white head and average sparkling appearance. Taste starts tart juicy tropical fruity and citrusy, following is floral and biscuity, mouthfeel is quite smooth, while finish is mild bitter. Medium body, slick texture and soft carbonation in palate. Wind of sour change…
