Description
Crux is a crossroads, an intersection, the heart of something. In brewing it's that pivotal point where fermentation happens and anticipation mounts.
We’re Crux Fermentation Project— housed in a former AAMCO Transmission Plant and inspired by our location right in the heart of Bend, Oregon. Our brewery is a one-of-a-kind, built for non-traditional brewing methods like decoction mashing, open fermentation and barrel aging, and for leveraging the limitless possibilities that wild yeast strains and experimental hops present.

Hot and heavy with the Bourbon. I like the dark fruits and roasted malt that add a bitter and sweet aspect but again, it is HOT! 3.86 on BA.

375ml waxed and corked bottle bought from an online store. Man, that is one super stubborn cork; it took me a few minutes to finally pull it out.
A- a small pop when the cork got the hell out of Dodge, it pours a pitch black with about an inch of tan foam with good lacing.
S- big roasted malt, bourbon, coffee, a bit of dark fruit.
T- roasted malt and bourbon up front, light coffee, and then it gets very sweet and hot. Every bit of the 11.5% is there! I get hints of dark fruits like raisins & plums from time to time and the bourbon seems to grow with every sip. There is some light bitterness here but the sweet notes dominate.
M- full bodied, light carbonation, the mouthfeel is fine.
O- I reckon some cellaring would calm things down but as is, it’s tasty but hot and a very slow drinker. I like it.

Tap at Crux, Bend, 23/05/13. Clear pale golden with a thin off white head. Nose is bready malts, fruits, light sugar, toffee notes. Taste comprises bitter orange, toffee, bread dough, light biscuity malt. Medium bodied, moderate carbonation malty strains and light bitter notes in the finale. Ok drinkable affair but nothing to write home about!

Tap at Crux, Bend, 23/05/13. Lightly hazed amber with reddish hues and a thin off white head. Nose is dark fruit, ginger, spice. Taste comprises light spice, tangy dark fruit, bready malts. Medium bodied with bite, fine carbonation. Average affair for what it was meant to be, no real sourness for a Flemish red just a little fruit tang.

Hazed light golden with a thin off white head. Nose is lemon, floral hops, orange. Taste comprises orange squash, citrus, bready malts, light hops, pine. Medium bodied with bite, fine carbonation, light hop bitterness in the finish. Strange one this - it was drinkable, I enjoyed it - but it didn’t really deliver the punch of a DIPA!

Black pour with thick beige head. Meets the hundred watt test. Too restrained aroma, some caramel and nut, maybe served a little too cold. Lekker roasty flavour with coffee, caramel and hop notes. A hop note in the finish.
