In 1968 the company was transformed into Duysters NV (limited liability company) which was active as a brewery until 1973.

The Loterbol brewpub started in 1995 in a renovated part of the brewery from the 18th century. in 2002 brewing started in the old brewery building of 1908. Both locations are still used for brewing.

Zwart bier met stevig schuim. Smaak is krachtig, licht bitter hoppig en zoet met sporen van karamel, noot, heel lichte rook, rozijn en pruim. Complexe smaak, blijft redelijk lang hangen.

Vintage bottle at Kulminator, where it was sold as a dry-hopped version with Orval yeast, which is a separate entry here; however, since the label mentions an ABV of 6.8% and there is no mention at all of Orval yeast being used, I cannot but assume it is the Loterbol 6 version, so I have no other choice than to put my rating under this entry. Very thick, coarse, ’papery’, snow white, rocky and stable head over a lightly hazy golden blonde beer, more cloudy with deposit as expected. Aroma of straw, white bread, soapy wheat, field flowers, dried banana, lemon blossom, wet leather and damp hay. Crisp fruity onset, dried apricot and redcurrant, dryish with medium carbonation, bready pale malt sweetishness in the middle but still remaining on the dry side, floral and grassy, aromatic ’noble’ hop bitterness in the finish with lingering malt ’juiciness’. I get a slight hint of onsetting ’Brettification’ so it may still be that other limited version, but I have no means to be one hundred percent sure - quite frustrating, actually, Duysters should have indicated the difference more clearly!

Note - this bottle was a 75 cl bottle, bottled just like the regular loterbol blonde 6,8 ABV. Yet, this is said to be a special and unique bottling. Sadly enough this will lead to many wrong entries, as there is no visual diffrence between this version, and the regular.. Pours clear blonde, very big white head. Smell is funky, dry, bit malts. Taste is brett-forward and intense. Much funk, much hay as well. fair share of bitterness, with a well-balanced, sweeter malty ending. Ok carbo and MF. Nice ! Its not an orval clone, if thats what you’d expect, but def. has some simmilarities.

Bottle. Pours clear red, small white head. Smell is cherrie, rather pure no funk or sweetness. Taste is mildly dry, full-on cherries, with a hint of natural funkyness. Very aromatic in the ending. Intense, for sure, on the cherrie side. Very one dimentionnal though. Boring, and basically this could be looked at as liquid cherrie. More of a fan of fruitbeers, where there actually is a ’beer’ taste as well. This has got no malts, hops, yeast, or anything else. Its not terrible, but who can drink a full 75 cl bottle of something this boring ?

Bottle 330ml (from BBF, BB 06/2018)
Dark brown color, good beige head. Aroma has light earthy notes, malts and light coffee. Medium-bodied. Flavor has similar light earthyness, but also candy sugar and prunes. Quite sweet, sweetness covers alcohol very well. Also mild citric notes. Way too restless for my liking, although has warming aftertaste and nice Belgian yeast notes.

375ml bottle shared @Brasserie 4:20 (Rome). Pours hazy golden with a medium to little white head. Aroma of barnyard, hay, dusty cellar, caramel, alcol. Flavour is halfway between a belgian strong and a sour ale. Full body, medium to strong carbonation. A bit rough, but ok.
