As the No.1 Brewer in Wales, S.A. Brain & Co. Ltd are fiercely proud of their Welsh heritage and the fact that they remain family owned. Founded in 1882 by Samuel Arthur Brain and his uncle Joseph Benjamin, S.A. Brain & Co. Ltd have been brewing beer in Wales’ capital for more than 135 years.

In 2012 they opened the Brains Craft Brewery which allowed them to brew in smaller batches and be more experimental with their flavours. To date they have produced over 100 craft beers, and the Craft Brewery has become an integral part of the Brains beer range.

Bottle 500 ml. Golden color with normal white foam. Aroma: sweet nectar, flowers, fruit and a little citrus, malts. Taste: light sweetness, fruit, caramel, nectar, light hop bitterness.

Review based on the BJCP2015 guidelines (style 21A). Bottle 33 cl - Batch unknown. AROMA: predominant diacetyl notes overwhelming everything else. slight toffee note. APPEARANCE: pale ambar color and translucent. medium off-white head with below average retention. TASTE: dominant diacetyl flavour with slight toffee notes. oxidation notes also present. high bitterness that lasts beyond an almost dry finish. Hop notes not present. PALATE: medium body with a slight slickness from diacetyl. Medium carbonation. OVERALL: a supposed American IPA that lost its hop aroma and flavors, with overwhelming buttery character.

Bottle. Appearance is hazy, light amber, a pillowy cream head of about 1-2 fingers. Aroma- orange, creamy malt, zesty lemon hints, coriander, spices, wheat, yeast, bread, fruitcake hints. Taste- malts, orange juice, tropical fruit, raisin hints, cereal, crisp hops. Bitter hoppy finish. Mouthfeel is juicy, with some carbonation.

Cask (handpump) @ GBBF 2015, Great British Beer Festival, London Olympia, Hammersmith Road, London, England W14 8UX. [ As Brains Craft Brewery Cambrian Pale ].Clear medium to dark amber color with a small, fizzy, fair lacing, mostly diminishing, off-white head. Aroma is moderate malty, caramel, marmelade, light to moderate hoppy, fruity. Flavor is moderate sweet with a long duration, caramel, sweet malt, marmelade, sweet hops. Body is medium, texture is oily to watery, carbonation is soft to flat. [20150812]

Warm golden colour, no head. Light spicy aroma, wood, straw. Bitter spicy flavour, hint of angelica root(?). Bit flat. Finish juniper berry.
