As the No.1 Brewer in Wales, S.A. Brain & Co. Ltd are fiercely proud of their Welsh heritage and the fact that they remain family owned. Founded in 1882 by Samuel Arthur Brain and his uncle Joseph Benjamin, S.A. Brain & Co. Ltd have been brewing beer in Wales’ capital for more than 135 years.
In 2012 they opened the Brains Craft Brewery which allowed them to brew in smaller batches and be more experimental with their flavours. To date they have produced over 100 craft beers, and the Craft Brewery has become an integral part of the Brains beer range.

Cask at The Haymarket. Pours (just) clear pale gold, thin white head. Nice yeasty saison aromas, light white pepper, some grapefruit beneath. Taste has more bready yeast, light bitterness and grapefruit again. Dry finish. Very nice.

Cask at Old Contemptibles; clear dark amber pour with a soapy white head, spicy aroma, quality rye spice taste, a hint of grapefruit, moderate review Jason gave it a thumbs up.

Cask @ Old Wellington, Manchester. Brighter amber coloured with a thin head. Has peach notes in both its aroma and taste with some grainy malts also evident. Fairly thin.

[ As Brains Craft Brewery Dissolution ].Clear dark red brown color with a average to large, frothy to creamy, good lacing, fully lasting, light beige head. Aroma is moderate to heavy malty, roasted, burnt, coffee, earthy, wood. Flavor is moderate to heavy sweet and light bitter with a long duration, sweet malt - yeast, roasted. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft to flat. [20130813]

Cask at canary wharf Nicholson’s pub. Aroma is bubble gum and wheat some earthy citrus lemon. Hazed yellow straw coloured pour with a sticky scummy white head. Flavour is more bubble gum fruity yeasty esters. Wheat and earthy orange fruit. Flabby wheaty palate. Under fermented for a saison. Some cider notes.

[ As Brains Craft Brewery Three-C Son ].Clear light to medium yellow color with a small to average, frothy, fair lacing, mostly diminishing, off-white head. Aroma is moderate malty, fruity, pale malt, pineapple. Flavor is moderate sweet and light bitter with a long duration, fruity, citrus, tart fruit - citrus tart. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is flat. [20130813]

330ml bottle. Pours a slightly hazy gold with a large head. Aroma is spicy and bready coriander and clove. Taste is bready to start with banana and coriander on the finish. Touch of orange.

Cask @ Palace, Leeds. Nicholson’s Beer Festival. Dark ruby red with a thick creamy head. Has a sweet fruity-floral aroma and a similar but dry taste.
