Fra fat på Bishops Arms i Ørebro 23 Jun 16. Svart. Mokkafarget skum. Aroma av lakris & nøtter. Smaken nøtter. Intenst søtt bourbon-preg. Alkoholen merkes ikke. Utmerket øl - men kanskje litt monotont.

33cl bottle from Beer52.com. A gushing pour with an opaque peaty body and a great quantity of loose beige head; aroma of coffee and chocolate; rather sweet oatmeal body; with a strong coffee-ground bitterness; and some lingering milk chocolate.

33cl bottle from Beer52.com as Bohemian Pilsner. A pale straw coloured pour with an enormous billowing loose white head; grassy aroma with a touch of lemon; a firm grainy body with a grassy taste; and a dry herbal bitterness, that’s quite sharp at first but then softens with some honey in the finish. A rather good Pilsner.

American style barley wine from (formerly) Danko’s CAP brewery, at Craft & Draft. Creamy, lacing, snow white, more or less stable head over a hazy peachy yellow blonde beer, lighter in colour than I am used to from the style, looking very much like a Belgian tripel. Aroma of banana bread, yellow kiwi, white bread crumbs, bitter honey, white wine, flowers, green tea, orange peel, white pepper. Fruity onset with hints of pineapple, passion fruit and banana, soft sourish gooseberry-like undertone, softish carbo, fluffy and full mouthfeel, bready malt body with a certain graininess to it as well as light honeyish sweetness, but not as vinous as expected; long spicy, grapefruity, herbal hop bitterness in the finish as well as gin-like, warming alcohol. Pleasant enough sipper, but actually much closer to a firmly hopped tripel or even a very strong ’Belgian IPA’ than to a real American barley wine.

From tap at Craft & Draft. Swedish ISA with creamy, thick, densely lacing, egg-white head and clear pure golden robe with somewhat greenish hue. Aroma of dried flowers, yellow grapefruit, stewed apple, some vague banana, celery, yellow passion fruit. Soft and subdued sweetish fruity onset (pear, pineapple, slight banana), medium carbo, lightly bready and grainy middle with a light honeyish touch, evolving into a dry, resinous, floral, gently but effectively hop bittering finish with a citrus peel accent. Very refreshing.

From tap at Craft & Draught. CAP’s oatmeal stout, with lightly lacing, pale greyish beige, cobweb-like, moussy head and blackish robe but actually very dark burgundy and still largely translucent. Aroma of coffee grounds, roasted chicory, ’natural’ iron, celery, soy sauce, caramelized sugar, salsify, toasted bread. Dry flavor, olive-like umami with basic cereal sweetness, bit sourish, soft carbo, slight metallic hint but not disturbing, diluted coffee grounds in the finish with a herbal hop touch. On the thin side but that is to be expected from a 4.7% beer, flavor-wise interesting and enjoyable for sure.

At Craft & Draft. The BBA version of Absence of Light, with thin, loosely structured, quickly dissolving, pale beige head and black colour with reddish mahogany brown edges. Powerful aroma of cappuccino, chocolate liqueur, brown rum or indeed sweet bourbon, glue or fresh paint, beef stock, vanilla, coffee grounds, brandy, wet wood. Intense candied sweetness but nothing cloying, dried fruits, candied banana, sourish edge, soft carbo, smooth, full and oily mouthfeel, nutty and chocolatey maltiness, toasted bittersweet with a drying finish, woody with lots of vanilla-like tannins, sweet bourbon, spicy hops and strong paint-like solvents. Pretty intense beer but too solvent-like to my taste, I preferred the regular version over this one.

At Craft & Draft. Lightly lacing, pale greyish beige, moussy head, black robe with burgundy hue. Aroma of mocha ice cream, toffee, cocoa, leather, cappuccino, caramel, beef stock, liquorish, some vanilla. Candied sweetness in the onset (but nothing cloying) balanced with basic roasted barley sourishness, hint dried banana, soft carbo, more or less resinous, oily, supple mouthfeel, nutty and toasted malt bittersweetness with both caramelly sweet and coffeeish bitter aspects to it, peppery hop ’sting’ in the finish with warming, bourbon-like alcohol. Nice!

From tap at Craft & Draft, cheers to Ilse. Very thick, rocky, egg-white, stable head, misty golden blonde colour with peachy hue. Aroma of soggy white bread, moist grains, field flowers, baker’s yeast, dry lemon zest, green banana, raw pineapple, vague cooked cabbage. Soft taste, restrained yeasty fruity hints, some green banana and unripe gooseberry, medium carbo, smooth body, bit bready, yeasty ending with a soft grassy hop touch. Decent lager, but not of the same class of refinement as some of the original German Kellerbiers.
