As Mastri Birrai Cotta 19. Huge thanks to heavy and especially his parents who brought the 3-pack to us... Man, 20 Euros for 3 0.5l (fancy & swingtop but still 0.5l) bottles. Does it shoot lightning out of its arse? Let’s see. Started off as an enormous gusher that just wouldn’t stop. A bottle that wasn’t shaken at all, but hey, it’s refermented in the bottle & stuff so it’s kinda understandable. Kinda. We did lose a lot of the already "small" package. Yay. The head was, you guessed it, enormous, but the body revealed underneath was a nice, murky gold. The aroma was thankfully inviting. And it had better been. Malt, light dust, sweet candyish notes, light herbal, nice yeastiness, honey. Mmmm. The taste, however, was quite lean. I felt that it was too lean even for 5%, heavy didn’t but never mind. In any case, the herbal notes were nice, slightly tangy, mildly juicy with light notes of apricot. Thin yet juicy, hmm. Light bitterness in the finish, somewhat creamy, light carbonation bite (as expected) though the mouthfeel is otherwise quite soft. An overpriced gusher that’s also a bit thin, but I thought the aromatics were nice, so I can’t hate it...

22nd April 2026: 500ml bottle in Serralunga d'Alba, Italy. Bright bitterness, nice malt base.. bit more flavour than last time producing some additional grapefruit notes. Up-rate.
24th July 2013: RE-RATE: 500ml bottle @ monthly tasting, Chez Sophie, Oct 17 part 2 as Mastri 19. Pours misty yellow, small white head. Aroma pale malts, soft yeast. Think I was a little harsh back in 2013, it is overly dry but there is a pleasant sweetness hidden underneath trying to get out. Uprated Bottle from the Italian wine importers near me. Wrote some notes trying to pick out faint glimpses of pineapple, tantalising glimpses of lemongrass.., but all the while I just thought "beer flavoured fizzy water". So I’ll just leave it at that.

Bottle at the ChrisO Flags of Many Nations Easter Tasting - London. Something I found down in East Dulwich and, since I love lentils, I couldn’t pass it up. Pours hazy, caramel-brown with a frothy, off-white cream head. Dusty cocoa in the nose, some lightly toasted bready malts. Medium sweet flavor with lightly toasted, bready malts, hints of creamy toffee. Light to medium bodied with fine, delicate carbonation. Moderate sweetness in the finish, well balanced, with toasted malts, some ripened fruits, toasted brown bread, hints of dry dirt and further dusty cocoa. Nice.

Bottled, 0.75l. Hazy golden color with small but compact white head and some yeast residue. Aroma of citrus, wheat, herbal hops and yeast. Taste starts fresh grainy and sour yeast, while followed by herbal and fruity notes. Mouthfeel is relatively crisp, but not dry, while finish is mild bitter. Medium body, creamy texture and average carbontaion in palate. Easy drinking beer, a bit short on the palate...
