An unusual scotch ale, but they pull it off. Bottle aged for a year and a half. A deep brown body with a reddy tinge to it topped with a disappointingly thin off white head. The nose combines single malt scotch, wood smoke and sweet malt. Tastes like the beer version of one of those really peaty Island single malt scotches. And that is not a bad thing. First taste is the wood smoke followed closely by the peat and whiskey warmth. Caramel, grain, sweet bready malt blend in and balance the other tastes. The body is just on the thin side of medium with mild carbonation and a slightly slick mouth feel. Tasty.

Clear yellow pour, tiny head. Aroma of floral honey and dry apple skins. Clear, crisp mouth feel, low carb.. Finish is slightly sweet, musty apples and quite dry, and boozy.

650ml Bomber. Murky, Cloudy brown pour, with a beige head. Aroma is a massive amount of balsamic/white vinegar and dark, overly ripe, tart fruit. Body is thin, carb is normal. Finish has hint of lemon, light roast, and smoke with a giant white vinegar kick. This is really bad.

hazy golden pour, billowy white head. zero aroma of hops. some light grains, and quite a bit of diacetyl. this was rushed, and its a big butter bomb. zero hops. disapointing.

On Tap at Volo.
Quite a hoppy, and seet barley wine. Big aroma of citrus, and leafy hops, followed by a big bready/sweet malt bill. The finish was a touch sweet for my taste, and the alcohol was well hidden. Decent.

Growler from the brewery.
typical hefe nose. lemon,. wheat, grassy hops, banana, and some light bubblegum. Flavor was predominantly wheat, and grassy hops with a banana/clove finish. The aftertaste was quite dry, a little more than i like in a hefe. Overall a good beer.

Growler from the brewery. Jet black pour with a mocha head. Piney resin aroma. Some realy great hopping mixed well with some intense toasty malt and some smoke. Lots of pine and spruce in the flavor, and the finish is very very dry with a great strong bitterness, snd ssome great roastiness. Fresh this beer is outstanding!

Aroma of smoke, lots of peat, and whiskey dryness. The flavor is quite astringent, and dry. Lots of smoke, and peat. This is way too scotchey, and i’m not sure i could drink a full glass of this. But maybe someone who loves scotch might enjoy it.

Bottle from the brewery.
Light sugary malt aroma with some light fruits, and some light grassy hops. Smells like a Belgian ale. Flavor has more of the grassy hops and sweet bready malts. Ummmm pils?! The color is also a hazy amber. Nit a bad beer, but church key is capable of so much better.
