Description
In 1449, Urbar von Wallsee first mentioned a brewery in Hofstetten. This is the oldest record we have of a brewery at this location, and it is a date that has granted us a place in the Guinness Book of Records as the Oldest Brewery in Austria. The tavern/brewery has been in the hands of the Krammer Family since 1847. Now in our fifth generation, we still proudly combine hops and malt daily to make the beautiful product of beer.

16 oz. draft @ The Mansion. Dark bronze color with a small off white head. Definitely has a Euro Oktoberfest flavor. Decent caramel flavor with a little Euro skunk mixed in. Okay. Kinda generic.

330ml bottle. Opaque, darkest brown colour with slightly late awakening, small to average, frothy to creamy, moderately lasting, minimally lacing, beige head. Intense and concentrated, sweet-ish, caramel malty aroma, notes of malt lozenge, hints of treacle, honey with mainly earthy aspects, a touch of rock sugar, herbal overtones, a spicy touch of soy sauce comes in while warming up. Taste is moderately sweet, minimally sugary, condensed, caramel malty, notes of treacle and malt lozenge, earthy hints of dark honey, a touch of rock sugar, a herbal touch as well, whiffs of herb liqueur. Well balanced, not too sweet, well hidden alcohol, relatively easy drinkable. Meets exactly what the style originally was about and is paradigmatic in this respect. (It's a frozen [Doppel-]Bock, not a frozen IIPA or Impy Stout or something else.) Pretty nice.

Deep mahogany colour, small yellow-beige head. Second half of bottle yields a collection of dangerous stealth UFO's. Dark, warm malts, bready, chestnuts, dark brown candi, hint at green leaves. Dry bitterish-sweet, chestnuts husks, dark bread, dark caramel, toffee. Well-bodied, slick, even a bit chewy. Not very carbonated. In the end, very good Doppelbock, just off-side of classic, which is even better.
