Description
Set in the scenic Blue Ridge Mountains of Central Virginia, Blue Mountain opened in 2007 as the region’s first rural brewery. Founders Taylor and Mandi Smack and Matt Nucci had a vision to bring the brewery experience out of the normal hustle and bustle of an urban environment. Today, we’re still focused on making an inspired range of the highest-quality beers that can be enjoyed at our two locations in beautiful Nelson County, or in bottles and cans throughout Virginia and beyond.

750ml bottle pours a translucent, light brown with some frothy, off white head. Nose was fairly approachable, citrus, nectarine, dried leaves, some lemon. Don’t get a ton of barrel in the nose. Flavor is sweet, malty, citrus, light caramel, light vanilla. Well balanced all the way through. This wouldn’t strike you as being barrel aged because it doesn’t hit you over the head with the barrel. Smooth, lightly hoppy finish.

Rubber, lemon, and fusel alcohol nose. Hazy amber, medium head. Bready flavor, banana and lemon underneath. Plastic notes. Lemongrass finish. Enjoyable, but as something in between Am wheat and hefeweizen.

I had this in the bottle and I had been warned that some bottles had infection issues. I think mine was one of them. 750ml pops and doesn’t gush but threatens to. Pours a slightly watery, translucent deep brown with some thin, sudsy, fading beige head. Nose has a ton of dark chocolate, some dried citrus, orange, toasted malt, toasted bread, a little licorice. Fairly mild nose. Flavor is way off; pickles, crayons, chocolate, dry grain, burnt licorice, plastic. The finish is watery but has some heavy carbonation which is the worst kind of pairing. A big miss.

Corked bottle. Banana, orange, clove and wheat malt aroma. Hazy golden yellow with large white head. Mildly sweet banana/orange, clove and light wheat malt flavor. Body a bit light. Very good - would have be excellent with more malt flavor.
