Bottle at ChrisO’s Great and Powerful Pre-GBBF Tasting - Are You Scottish Edition (London, 2013). Pours clear, golden-brown with a bubbly white froth. Nose holds drain cleaner and ripe fruits. Light to medium sweet flavor with lots of tangy, semi-ripe fruits, golden raisins. Light bodied with fine carbonation. Tangy finish with plenty more cleaning product character. Not good.

ChrisO’s Pre GBBF ’Are You Scottish?’ tasting. Light haze on this amber beer, residual white head. Light palate, minerally crisp and dry. Lemony sharpness and sournesss. A little floralness. Dried fruits, Finishes softish and semi dry. Not sure if this was what was intended but it’s passable!

Bottle at Chris O’s pre-GBBF shindig, 2013. Cloudy gold pour. Spicy nose of ginger and cloves, a bit of earth, caramel. Quite a nutty, fruit filled flavour. Nothing too interesting.

Bottle at Chriso’s Pre-GBBF Shindig 2013. Thanks to Ken. Aroma is light vinegar and green apple + some cara mat sweetness. Hazed orange brown pour. Flavour is more green apple, tangy, some tart. Perhaps infected?

Bottle at Chriso’s Pre-GBBF Shindig 2013. It pours hazy golden amber with a small white head. The nose is sweet butterscotch, apple brandy, tangy dried fruit, vinous, wet wood and brown bread. The taste is sour, dark fruit, tart dried berry, earth, white grape, wood and light bitterness. Medium body and moderate carbonation. Hard to rate as I doubt the sour element is intentional. OK for what it is.

33 cl bottle. Pours hazy orange with a fully gone head. Aroma is mild citric and toasted malty. Bitter, herbal, toasted malty. Citric and dry finish.

50cl bottle from Westholme Stores, Goring. A cloudy, pale straw, pour with a fast fading white head; grainy aroma; rather thin the mouth, with a predominantly citrus flavour, followed by a brief surge of hoppy bitterness and then some warmth from the root ginger. Certainly refreshing, but not much more.

33cl bottle from Westholme Stores, Goring. A slightly hazy pour with a thick cream head to start, this quickly deteriorates to a thin scummy covering; complex aroma with raisins, Belgian yeast, treacle and some rye bread; the body is medium weight and silky, with lots of tart, soft, dried fruit; before a dry yeasty finish with a pleasing alcoholic warmth. Great stuff - this would stand up well against any similar Belgian beer.
