Description
Pretty Things Beer & Ale Project began on a shoestring budget in 2008. We exist to allow 20 year professional brewer Dann Paquette to make an honest living while giving his imagination free reign. We brew our beers in other people's breweries because we can't afford our own. We enjoy the up-at-dawn lifestyle and the freedom to brew beers of our own imagining. We brew all our beers ourselves: Dann brews and formulates, Martha mills in. We dream up our beers together, inspired by Europe, by history, and by BEER and all it can be. We are based in Somerville, but brew mostly in Westport, MA, hence the early mornings. Cheers!

i think dan is way more of a mad genius than anyone else in craft brewing right now, and yes...more than sam from dogfish. this was a very easy to drink stout, not trying to play one-upsmanship like most others in terms of abv, just going after the right combo that will be something new. love it.

Pours deep brown, nearly black with a large and long lasting creamy tan head. Roasty malts, light coffee, some fruity hops in the aroma. Medium bodied. Very interesting porter. Has the standard light coffee, chocolate, roasted malt profile but adds in a healthy hop kick. Bitterness comes from the roasted malt and hops, which is fun. Finish is long and bitter. Fun beer.

22 oz. bottle. Label over cap stated “bottled May 2011 Batch 25.” Hazy gold with an orange tint. Higher carbonation with a decent amount of head. Nose is lots of barnyard, Belgian spice and a bit of lemon zest. A good amount of hops, citrus and light spice. Light and dry finish. Lightly hoppy. You pick up more funk as it warms. A decent Saison. If you like this style, it’s worth a try. Went down easy. I paid $5.99 at Table and Vine, West Springfield, MA.

Bottle. Pours brown with a thick grayish brown head that dissipates slowly to the edges. Aroma is full of malts with dark grains and bread coming through as well as a bit of an odd dark fruit note. Flavor is similar with the same odd dark fruit note that muddles a nice dark grain and dark bread body with a bit of a sweet backing.

Bottled from de Molen. Clear orange color, huge rocky off-white head. Aroma of toasted malt, hint of caramel, slight earthy hop, indeed not that aromatic of hops. Very bitter, dry, almost astringent, earthy. Toast and some biscuity sweetness also, but they are way overpowered by the bitterness.

Golden with a white head. Zesty aroma of citrus, light yeast spice, light floral, and a hint of sweet malts. Lively mouth. Bright citrus, yeast, a bit funky, lightly spiced, and fairly fresh tasting. Really enjoying this saison.

Pours deep mahogany into a Sam glass. Tan micro head with excellent retention recedes leaving spot lacing to skim surface. Cocoa, earthy manure, tobacco and espresso aromas. Full with dark chocolate and mocha upfront before turning to licorice before the lasting bittersweet espresso finish.
