Deep black ...rich sweet toffee roast malt ... balanced and complex ... sweet roast malt ... hint of toffee ... mellow and soft. tk 2, tk3 .t4 lets just say this NEVER dissapoints. Wonderfull localish beer, cask in bow bar ... deep black thin tan head ...soft chocolate licorice nose ... dark roast malts ... light charcoal bitterness ... hint of licorice ... very nice 4.4 deep black .... thin tan head ... too puff candi for me today .... shame 3.6

Black, but with a brown-red shine; collapsing, very coherent dark-beige head. Rich, bready, liquorice-tinted stout nose. At the same time, some fresh greenery & cypress aromas, gingerbread. Initially dry, ashy, stout taste with some liquorice (not much, thanks); rather long lingering flavours. Rather sweet after a few sips. Remains roasty, throughout, near burnt. Medium bodied at best, a bit thin. Considering its modest ABV, more than decent stout.

Brown-foxy, with an olive shine; olive tinted, creamy head. Malty with coloured malts, and a fresh greenery smell, even a bit leafy, and salty - seaweed or kelp-like. Must be the thistles? Quite bitter, with a very clear hop - start, then getting granulated, sandy. Dry taste ending in a little leather-like flavour, spicey, quite dry-bitter and complex. Medium bodied at best, slight slickness, very light burning MF. I’m surprised - I like this pretty much. Very decent, even complex, satisfying ale. Slainte mhath, Craig!

Amber-chartreuse, mostly clear, with a small beige head that leaves no lacing.
Hugely estery nose, but muted somewhat by too much spicy, phenolic character and a strange roasted, nutty note as well. Some light sugars and herbal/tea-like suggestions (must be the nettles). Too much dryness/blandness and the esters are just too much as well. Don’t see why they used any dark malts in this one, it just muddles things and leaves too much dryness. The spiciness is really strange too. Kind of smells like fruitcake when all the esters get mixed in. Not a very strong nose either.
Bland and nutty, with more roast and only minimal malt. Overattenuated, without any real supple texture, the thistle seems pretty soggy and out-of-reach. Weird spices, poor carbonation creating a loose, watery texture.

(Bottle, Monk’s Café, Stockholm) Black colour with pale brown frothy head. Roasted nose with notes of chocolate, coffee, liquorice and something slightly smokey, tarry hanging in the background. Roasted taste with chocolate, coffee, moccha, blueberries and some tarry hints of liquorice. Some lactose sweetness. Very tasty, but the low abv and velvety body makes it very smooth and enjoyable. A really nice stout.

Bottled at Monk’s Café, Stockholm. Opaque very dark brown. Aroma of milk chocolate and coffee. Medium sweet with clean, rounded mouthfeel. Strong flavour of cocoa powder. A fairly light, but pleasing, stout.

Bottled at Monk’s Café, Stockholm. Deep golden, lightly hazy. Aroma of vanilla, black currant and coriander. Medium sweet and light bodied. Bottled at Monk’s Café, Stockholm. Clear deep golden, fairly rich head. Perfumy aroma of lemon and elderflower. Dryish with light-medium body. Crisp and juicy with loads of elderflower flavour and notes of vanilla. Lightly salty finish with low bitterness. Well balanced and drinkable. Cask at GBBF 2006. A hazy orange beer with a white head. The aroma is sweet hoppy giving it light notes of grass. The flavor is sweet malty with notes of grass and grapefruit, leading to a nicely bitter end.
