Description
Craft beer in its purest form is what Sebastian Sauer, the head behind Freigeist beer culture, produces. Sebastian is known among experts as one of the first craft beer brewers in Germany. True or not, he's a veteran in the craft beer scene and an expert who is second to none. It's not for nothing that his beers are more popular than any other German beer in the USA, the home of craft beer.
Free spirit beer culture is conquering the craft beer world with the salvation of old, long-forgotten beer styles. Sebastian reads himself into the matter until he has found out all the ingredients of the original recipe and the subtleties and secrets of the old brewing style. With this knowledge, he then ponders how the beer would be brewed these days and what ingredients would be used. He doesn't want to bring old camels out of grandma's handbag to the light of day, but rather to transport the beers of the past with skill and expertise into the present. His beers are therefore not just reproductions of old recipes, but rather modern new editions. With this concept, the brewery has made a good name for itself in the craft beer scene and attracted international attention.

37,5cl bottle @Pikkulintu. Poured dark amber with a thin head. Rosemary, thyme, floral aroma. Flavor is thyme and blueberry as well as some other spices. Dry finish. Quite a mishmash, not sure if I liked this or not.

37,5cl bottle @Pikkulintu. Poured black with a beige head. Aroma has strong vanilla notes along with red wine like notes. Vanilla and sweet liqueur like flavors. Too much vanilla in this one.

(Bottle, 0.375 - BBE 03/2012, at Pikkulintu, 20111203) The beer poured black. Its head was medium sized and light brown. Aroma had hops, coffee and roasted malts. Palate was medium bodied with medium carbonation. Flavours were roasted malts, coffee, liquorice, alcohol, hops and bitterness. Aftertaste had hops, coffee and bitterness. The coffee wasn’t too much present which was nice.

37.5cl, bb 04/2012.

375ml bottle. Deep black with almost no head. Oily. Notes of coffee, chocolate, some smoke. Well hidden alcohol. Would appreciate if more German brewers had the courage to do imperial stouts.

37,5 cl bottle @ home, BBE 06/2012
Rather weird, sweet and stale aroma has American hops, exotic fruits, flowery notes and hints of spices. Flavour is hoppy, slightly sweet and kind of sour with exotic fruits, some flowery notes, spices and hints of vanilla. A bit light and straightforward avour when looking at the ABV. A German Barley Wine?

Kurz alkoholisch. Gut, erstaunlich harmonisch. 12/12/10/11//11

Bottle from Bierland, Hamburg. Slightly hazy red/brown with a medium, creamy head. Nice fruitiness on this one, also malt and caramel. Good balance and easy to drink. Not your typical Altbier.
