Description
Craft beer in its purest form is what Sebastian Sauer, the head behind Freigeist beer culture, produces. Sebastian is known among experts as one of the first craft beer brewers in Germany. True or not, he's a veteran in the craft beer scene and an expert who is second to none. It's not for nothing that his beers are more popular than any other German beer in the USA, the home of craft beer.

Free spirit beer culture is conquering the craft beer world with the salvation of old, long-forgotten beer styles. Sebastian reads himself into the matter until he has found out all the ingredients of the original recipe and the subtleties and secrets of the old brewing style. With this knowledge, he then ponders how the beer would be brewed these days and what ingredients would be used. He doesn't want to bring old camels out of grandma's handbag to the light of day, but rather to transport the beers of the past with skill and expertise into the present. His beers are therefore not just reproductions of old recipes, but rather modern new editions. With this concept, the brewery has made a good name for itself in the craft beer scene and attracted international attention.

Dull tan. Doesn’t look like much. The aroma is fairly uneventful. There is fairly strong acidity on the palate, a hint of smokiness. A bigger brew than the single ’x’ and with more assertive tartness.

Thanks Jonas! Dull tan, hazy. The aroma is wheaty and smokey. Tart and smokey body. Simple - clean and thirst-quenching. Very tasty.

37,5cl bottle from Bierkompass. Wow! Hadn´t read anything about this beer before tasting it, believing it to be a trad. berliner weisse. Perfect marriage of rauchbier and berlinerweisse! Poured slightly cloudy deep orange/brown color with a white, slightly frothy head, quite thin and quickly disappeared. Aroma is mild smokey (comes to think of Bamberg smoke) with some fruity sourness. Flavor similar to aroma, smoke, berries (strawberries perhaps) and some sourness. Finish is quite long with nice smoke and slightly bitter. Excellent beer and very drinkable.

Bottle. Pours oily black with a low head. Chocolate, Sourmash and licorice aroma. Wooden, sour, salty, chili chocolate, heavy rye edges. Weird and doesn’t mesh too well unfortunately. Medium body, oily mouthfeel. Sour aftertaste.

Bottle courtesy of Davy at Alvinne, thank you sir. This bottle is proof that the Reinheitsgebot is dead and should be buried. Black color, brown head. Charcoal aroma, flavors of mild burnt embers and bitter cocoa. Medium body. Very tasty, I hope other German brewers (and beer drinkers) notice!

Bottle. Pours orange, hazy, with a small white head. The taste is really sour with some mild apricots in the background... not very complex, but I like sourness and havent taste many beers this sour!
