Sampled @ O.B.E.R. Kerstbierfestival 2014, Essen. Dunkel rötlichbraunes Bier mit einer ordentlichen beigen Schaumkrone. Geruch kräftig malzig, reife Früchte, Zucker. Geschmack kräftig süß malzig, Zucker, Karamell, ein wenig Gewürze.

Bottle from belgiuminabox. Pours dark, clear brown. Smell is wine. Intence, but not too extreme . Bit roasted malts. Slightly bitter. Taste is bit bitter. Much wine - in a very good way - . Some oak. Fleshy ( part of the wine thing) . Very clear wine taste, yet still balanced. High but not too high carbo. Nice. Alcohol is very hidden.

Tasting glass draft @ Kulminator. Almost clear orange, small white head. Very sweet orange & biscuit with candy sugar nose, almost makes me think of good oxidation but this is fresh, I believe, some cornflakes. Taste is biscuit, orange, cornflakes, lots of candy sugar, oxidation orange, sweet malt, honey. Slick slightly warming, sticky honey & malt body. I get why Kulminator is serving this, this taste like a well-aged tripel.

One of Montaigu’s first beers - and an attempt at porter, for that matter. Light beige, creamy head over a murky bronze beer showing an aroma of candied fruits, chocolate, hazelnuts but unfortunately some DMS (cooked cabbage) too. Sweetish taste of candied dates, esters, candi sugar, rich dark maltiness, some vague smokiness and light roasted bitterness in the end. Acceptable, but I had much better porters. It is clear this is a style Belgian brewers are not yet familiar with.

Thx! 33 cl. bottle sampled. GUSHER. Hazy golden with floaters, small white head. Strange malty nose, thick yeast cake & some light sourness. Thick yeast cake taste, light lacto-feel to it, nasty dough, bitter, light sour finish, sweet sour bread, pepper,… Very high carbonation. Maybe my bottle was not alright.

One of Montaigu’s first, brewed at Hofbrouwerijke. Creamy head, hazy yellowish blonde colour. Aroma of apricot, banana, yeast, vanilla, coriander; soft palate, very fruity taste with banana esters, spiciness (cloves, coriander), sweetish with a lightly bitter finish, in which the alcohol is well hidden. Okay tripel.

Tripel-style interpretation of the historical ’Diesters bier’, since 2011. Loose and opening, coarse head, warm orange blonde colour, misty. Aroma of orange juice, caramel, rosewater, bitter honey; soft apple taste, caramelly malt sweetness, mild herbal hop bitterness in the finish but also not too well-hidden, gin-like alcohol. Mediocre tripel, in my opinion.

At anders! Bierfestival . Pours blonde to orange , no real head . Smell is sweet , fruity . Malty . Taste is bitter , bit sweet , malty , the sweetness is def. sugary , but in a good way . Ää Very nice . Alcohol is very hidden . Mouthfeel and carbo are nice to perfect . Very impressive beer , tasted withoud any expectations , turns out to be a nice surprise
