500ml bottle from Dobbies. Pours black, medi um tan head. Aroma alludes to milky cocoa tinged roasted malts. Taste follows with good milk chocolate presence, light caramel, soft roast, medium bodied, light ashy woody notes. Very good.

Bottle. Clear golden body with a thin white head that holds well. Steady carbonation. Faint lacing. Aroma of earth and orange pith. Flavour of muted lemon and grain. Thin body with a watery texture. Soft fizz. There’s not much to it, but what’s there is fine.

Bottle (5.1% ABV) from The House of Bruar. Clear deep amber body with a thin beige head. Steady carbonation. Faint lacing. Aroma of fig, caramel and sweet tea. Flavour of toffee, cranberry and strawberry. Thin to medium body with a watery texture. Soft fizz. Nicely balanced and full flavoured. This should be classed as a Brown Ale, not a Bitter.
