13th March 2015: third of a pint (cask) in my local Wetherspoons during a mini-session midday to celebrate the first day of the 2015 festival. Red hue to the body, clear and bright, decent lacing as the beer level fell. Nice blend with a malty front in both the aroma and taste, semi-sweet molasses are kept in check by a good balance of spicy hop notes that equal out the sweetness well. Easy to drink and worthy of a bigger sample on another day.

Cask at the Sun. Lancaster. Reddish copper/brown with a sizeable off-white head. Malt aroma with a hint if berry. Straightforward bitter taste with an assertion of sweetness from the heavy malt. Ok, but I wish it was more exciting.

Cask at the High Cross Inn, Broughton-in-Furness. Deep golden colour, flat. Lemony, metallic, cereal aroma. Mildly bitter, slightly sulphurous taste. Body is light to medium. So, just another golden ale basically.

Cask at High Cross Inn, Broughton-in-Furness. Golden/copper, with a large cream-coloured head. Malty aroma. A bit metallic with some gentle floral notes. Quite sweet in the taste, but becomes slightly more bitter at the end of the sip. More metal and hints of mead in the aftertaste. Nothing special but certainly drinkable.

Cask at the Sun, Lancaster, 01/03/15. Rich reddish amber with a decent light beige covering. Nose is biscuit malt, caramel, earthy hop tones, light fruit. Taste comprises red berry notes, spice, toffee, biscuit. Medium bodied, soft carbonation, semi drying close. Decent gear.

Bottle. Appearance is nearly black, with a one finger off white head which disappears quickly. Aroma- malty, roast hints, some dark fruit, chocolate. Roasty chocolatey taste, smooth mouthfeel, hints of chocolate, some caramel in the finish. Ok stout.

Bottle thanks to allmyvinyl. Appearance - deep amber with a decent head. Nose - honey and nuts, slightly grainy. Light wood spice in the background. Taste - light toffee and nuts again. Wood spice is now coming out as coconut. Palate - close to medium bodied, with a creamy/nutty texture and a finish that is just too cloying. Overall - too sweet but it grows.

500ml bottle shared with AshtonMcCobb. Pours clear red-brown with a thin white head. Aromas of light nuttiness, something estery. Taste is light honey, nutty. Medium body, sweet finish.
