Cloudy chocolate brown beer. Short lived cream head. Rich flavoursome barleywine. Creamy malt. Sweet port and brandy flavours. Smooth as silk. No dryness or bitterness. Not much hop. Some licorice spirit in the finish. Nice beer. 3rd year issue. Bottle 1173/1500.

Bottle thanks to london1o1, shared at the 2010 Winter Solstice. Poured a dark brown with opaque edges and a light brown head that dissipated completely. Aroma had a decent amount of spice joined by sweet dark grains, dates and raisins. Flavor was full of dark fruits with caramel, dark grains and a strong spice back bone.

Growler thanks to london101, shared with others, thanks! Porued a clear pale gold with visible heavy carbonation and a white head that dissipated quickly to the edges. Aroma had nice tart fruit with some kumquat coming through and a light sweet grain backing and a bit of champagne yeast. Flavor had light tart fruit with grapes, peach and kumquat coming through with a light grain backing and a champagne quality as well. Bubbles present on the tongue.

Had this on tap at the Mad Mex in Monroeville. Looks like pale lager with a creamy top. Perhaps some haze in there. Just smells beery good, no hint of blueberry per se. First taste is barely any carbonation but ast eh session continues the creamy ness of the brew begins to set in for a nice palate, even becomes sizzly at times. Much more mild than I expected with all these rude rye brews around anymore. I even found this to be fun and interestingly mild. Almost oddly tart ans sparkly. Mild friendly and easy, boy does east end make some great session brews and this is another. Easy to get along with fer sure. Perhaps some fruit or blueberry in the taste deep down inside. Refreshing to say the least. No real bttier personality and that suits me just fine. Really good beer tasting experience and my pint went down to the bottom before I knew it, lovely. Another nifty beer from Scott, thanks bud!

Bottle thanks to exiled, via bu11zeye. Pours with a hazed golden orange body and minimal head. Aroma of orange, bread, pine, spicy yeast, herbal. Freshly cut grass. Flavors are sharp, phenolic, citrus, hoppy, grass, herbal, pepper, grainy. Very hoppy/citrusy. Medium bodied, low carbonation, bitter finish.

2007 bottle in trade with MrBunn, shared with mowz and some neighbors. Pours with a lot of floaties. Guess I stirred up some of that bottle-conditioned yeast trying to cool it a bit beforehand. mowz says he got impressions of honey mustard. Well, it’s not the first beer I’ve had with mustard, but I just figured it was a little spicy character brought on by yeast. The hop taste seems to be brought in through alcohol vapors. Quite brusque hop taste, I suspect Northern brewer more than anything else. However, as the bottle warmed up, and as we got further into it, a nice fruity ale taste started to emerge. Lots of sticky malt on the lips and tongue. With plenty of yeast in suspension, yet that didn’t affect the taste too much. Just the appearance might put a few people off.

Growler thanks to Pollock. Pours black with brownish off white head. Nose and taste of smoke, BBQ, smoked malts, light chocolate, coffee grounds and light wood.

Bottle: Poured a medium amber color ale with a large foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of toffee and caramel malt with sweet malt base is enjoyable enough for style. Taste is also dominated by medium sweet toffee notes with some caramel malt and a sweet finish. Body was about average for style with good carbonation with no apparent alcohol. I must admit that while this beer was satisfying it was definitely below my expectation – no dry fruit or interesting ester.

1Liter flip top thanks to JohnGalt1 pours out a cloudy amber/orange topped with a off white head. Aroma was of sweet caramel, grapefruit peel, and pine hops. Taste was more of the sweet caramel and bitter hops. A decent malt to try to pull this thing in from being a hop trip.

Bottle at Pilsner Pete’s awhile back. Pours brown. Nose and taste of sweet caramel malts, vanilla extract, brown sugars, molasses and slight hint of coffee.
