Description
In 1981, Peter Mauldon, the great grandson of Anna Maria decided to re-establish the family tradition and start a brewery in Sudbury once again. Peter had been too young to be involved in the original family business and had previously pursued a career with Messrs. Watney where he progressed to Head Brewer at the company’s large Mortlake Brewery.

Cask from The Pump House, Shirley. Light clouded gold with small white top. It has a citric and stone fruit tang, somewhat floral, hint of metal, drying and bitter but too astringent for me. Not that keen.

Bottle at home after a 1.5 hour round trip to collect the offspring through terribly flooded roads. Great pour with a rich head and a deep mahogany colour in the glass. This is a proper and very good best bitter. Malt and hops perfectly balanced. This just hits the spot.

Bottle at home from the Co Op in Winterton. Good pour with a light colour in the glass. Taste is a lager and it does look like one. And it means I didn't chill it enough. It's nothing special.

Bottle found in the Co-Op in Winterton on Sea. Reasonable pour with bitter hops on the nose. Malt, bitter hops and caramel on the nose. Not much depth and a bitnof cardboard. Really not great, but still drinkable.

500ml bottle from Co-Op at Cambridge North station. Pours black with an off-white head. Trad stout profile, fairly light bodied, soft roasty dark malt with dark fruits rising from the ashes on the finish, tobacco linger. Not bad.
