Description
In 1981, Peter Mauldon, the great grandson of Anna Maria decided to re-establish the family tradition and start a brewery in Sudbury once again. Peter had been too young to be involved in the original family business and had previously pursued a career with Messrs. Watney where he progressed to Head Brewer at the company’s large Mortlake Brewery.

Cask handpull at The Brewery Tap, Ipswich. Poured a ruby brown colour with a small off white head, soon dissipating. Aroma of caramel, malt, and golden syrup. Medium sweetness with an underlying sharp bitterness. Body is quite light, texture sticky. Carbonation is fairly high despite appearance of flatness. Finish is bitter.

Tried at the Lincoln Beer a Festival 2015. Coopper colour with white head. Slight citrus and grass, but mainly malt and caramel.

Cask at Charlies Bar, Copenhagen. Poured a clear dark amber with a frothy white head and some broken lace. The aroma is light malt hop. The flavour is moderate to light bitter with a skunky malt, woody hop bitter palate. Light bodied with soft carbonation.

Cask @ Crosse Keys (JDW), City EC3. Pours a dark amber color with a small off-white head. Has a fruity malty caramel aroma. Fruity malty caramel flavor with weak hoppy hints. Has a fruity malty caramel finish with weak hoppy hints.

Cask at George Inn, London. Hazy nut brown color, small steady creamy beige head, lace. Nutty hoppy aroma. Light-bodied to medium-bodied. Nutty, a bit bready with spicey hoppyness. Decent.

Cask at the Old Manor (JDW), Bracknell. Golden amber with a tight cream head; sweet malt aroma; malty body but with a sour apple taste; and a dry biscuity finish.

Cask at the standing order. Pours clear red-brown, thick, creamy head. Aromas are caramel, light floral hops. Taste is light bitter, nice balance. Decent, if not very interesting.

Cask at the Back of Beyond (JDW), Reading. Deep amber with a thin cream head. Earthy and nutty with some chocolate and a mild bitterness and slight dryness in the finish. A pleasant bitter.
