Handpull cask at the Red Lion, Histon. Tawny brown and clear, hardly any head but there is considerable lacing on the glass. Woody, grassy, astringent smell with sulphurous notes and earthy hop. I don’t often like these beers but it smells very fresh. The sulphur is quite pronounced in the taste and subverts my attention from the pleasant bitterness at the back of the tongue. Long, bitter finish with notes of Angustora bitters and turpentine afterward. Thin body. Imperfect but perfectly drinkable.

Cask at Butler, Reading. 19/05/17. Sweet but slightly sickly malty caramel aroma. Light chestnut. Really creamy white head. Malty sweetness. A hint of bitterness. But I can’t get over the sweet element, like the aroma it’s offputting. Light-medium bodied. Watery. Soft carbonation. Long finish.

Cask at The Crosse Keys, Gracechurch St, London. Pours clear deep golden with a lasting white head. Aroma of hop, butter, lightly floral. Quite heavy sweetness and mild bitterness. Toward medium body and some stickiness to texture, carbonation is soft. Ok but too much butter.
