West Hewish, Weston-super-Mare, UK - BS24 6RR, England
Description
Brewing started behind the Royal Clarence Hotel, and in those days trading as the Royal Clarence Hotel Brewery, in Burnhan-on-Sea in August 1982. A 5 barrel brew plant was used primarily to supply the hotel only. The brewery was taken over in May 1984 and the beers became more available in the free trade. Due to problems with the water supply, the brewery was using that much that hotel guests could not wash, the brewery moved in January 1993 to an old cider mill in West Hewish, Weston-super-Mare. Capacity was tripled during the move and in 2000 work started on upgrading the plant to a 30 barrel brew length. The brewery closed in early 2017 but relaunched shortly afterwards as Pitchfolk Brewery.

Cask gravity at Catford BF 06. Clear gold with disappearing head. Some caramel on this, otherwise a bit dull. Some hop on end. OK, but dull.

Bottled picked up in Herefordshire. Pours a warm golden colour with a white quite frothy head, definately quite hoppy but also citrusy lemonyness and good crisp bite the best of the RCH beers I’ve had but still I have had much better.

Bottle picked up in Herefordshire. Pours a dark brown with coffee and hint of dark chocolate in the aroma, has a roasted flavour and is quite dry but a little bit of sweetness. I have had this beer frequently, why I don’t know as I have never been particularly impressed

Bottled Herefordshire. Reddy brown coloured, some hops and malt present in the aroma but not too much, malty and pleasantly bitter this was a good if unspectacular ale.

Cask handpull at Red Lion, Isleworth. Golden with lasting creamy white head. Good mouth feel, bit grainy. Nice beer. Fine hoppy aroma, really quite juicy in the mouth and with fine malts.

Casked. Amber/copper colour, mediumsized head. Fruity bitter aroma. Hayish, flowery bitter flavour. Quite standard cask bitter. Flowery hops in aftertaste. Not that much "oakish" (or whatever) hints many casked ales do have in them.
