Description
Brasserie Lepers is the result of more than 100 years of experience shared over 6 generations. The tradition has been perpetuated by, on the one hand, the Maille family - Brasserie Maille (since 1905) which then became the Brasserie d'Annœullin, and on the other, by the Lepers - Brasserie Lepers Frères family (from 1880 to 1960 ). These are the ancestors of Charles Lepers, current director of the Lepers Brewery now at La Chapelle d´Armentières, where the copper boilers have been moved from the old family estate of Annoeullin to preserve the art of brewing in the old style.
Note: Previously Brasserie Lepers. In 2012 moved from Annoeullin to 199bis Rue Marle La Chapelle-d'Armentières. Acquired by 3F in 2020, moved to the former Gayant premises in Douai, some production done by 3F in Belgium.

Bottle picked up from L’Eclerc supermarket, Cherbourg, Normandy, consumed at home cooking Fish Soup, Saturday 24th June 2017. Golden with a very slight haze. Some sweet cereal but then there is a slightly off vinegar edge to this just noticeable on the nose and ever so slightly more so in the mouth, it’s not much and I could persevere but I suspect a slight (only slight) infection, shame really asking it looked like it might be an interesting beer. Bière de garde from a 75 cl bottle at Velootje in Ghent. Very thick and rocky, egg-white, fluffy, thickly cobweb-lacing head over a misty pale amber coloured beer with peachy orange hue, cloudy with sediment. Aroma suffers from lightstruck effect (ammonia - green bottle!), covering more flattering hints of dried apricot, straw, jute, white pepper, apple peel, clove-like phenols, toasted bread, old cake, sourdough, parsley, unripe plums, pear, green tomatoes. Mildly fruity onset, peach, vague banana and sourish redcurrant, fizzy carbo - bit overcarbonated in fact, but otherwise smooth and lean mouthfeel. Grainy, lightly nutty and somewhat caramelly malt core, a touch toasted bitter in the end, matching with grassy and peppery hop bitterishness, a tad earthy, dryish and yeasty with fruity esters lingering in the back of the mouth. Decent enough, too bad for that lightstruck smell but after this fades away, this is an enjoyable albeit very stereotypical French ale.

Bottle shared in High Wicombe - picked up online. Pours clear gold with a creamy, white head. The nose has some dry dough, wheat, yeast, faint citrus, straw, cereal grains. Light sweet flavour with simple doughy wheat, some impressions of tangerine, melon. Medium bodied with fine to average carbonation. Sweet in the finish, with more melon, tangerine, wheat flakes. Basic but enjoyable.

75cl bottle shared with my Belgian father in law Eric as he happily sang the old war song that this beer is named after. Pours clear gold, thin white head. Aroma is soft farmhouse grains. Taste is smooth floral hops with a curious lightly sticky caramel sweetness, almost honey-like. I guess this could be the buckwheat? Interesting with some additional gueuze-like floral notes, but not convinced by the sweet aspects.
