Description
Rocky Head Brewery is a micro (5BBL) brewery set up by a group of friends inspired by the American Craft Brewing scene. The brewery is probably the most ramshackle in the UK, equipment sourced and modified from here, there and everywhere.. It seems to work though! We craft artisanal batches of intensely flavoured pale ale by hand, loaded with American and NZ hops.

Bottle from Oddbins. Hazy amber body with a thin off-white head that holds well. Low carbonation. Nice lacing. Aroma of crumbled Digestive biscuits, caramel and mango. Murky flavours of earth, caramel, musty citrus and minerals. Medium body with a creamy texture. Almost completely flat. A muddled IPA. Not bad.

Bottle from Oddbins. Hazy pale golden body with a huge white head. Lively carbonation. Excellent lacing. Aroma of straw, lemon and biscuit. Flavour of lemon, lime - very dry and refreshing. Thin body with a watery, slightly oily texture. Nice fizz. Very sharp and dry (usually characteristics I like in a beer) but this feels quite raw and the citrus flavours are verging on sour.

On tap at Sebright Arms, Bethnal Green, Sunday 20th April 2014 Aroma is mouldering lemons. Soft in mouth, zappy, lemony, fruity but also soft yet another winner from Rocky Head. Of all of the London Micros, Rocky Head seem content to plough their own furrow, knocking out great beers without making a song and dance about it. Loving this. A7 A4 T8 P4 Ov15 3.8

Bottle in Gabrovo, Bulgaria - picked up from Oddbins London Bridge. Pours lightly hazy gold, highly effervescent, with a lively, frothy off-white head. The aroma has lots of jammy citrus fruits, some orange, general marmalade, some dry minerals, suggestions of bread and earthy pine. Medium sweet flavor with lightly toasted bready malts, assertive bitter pine, more flinty minerality, some leaves, orange rind, more overarching jammy citrus fruits. Medium bodied with average to heavy carbonation. Finishes with mild hoppy resins, pine oils, dried citrus, toasted pale malts, rocks, dirty leaves, pithy orange. Not an especially clean IPA - it’s got a lot of dirty leaf and pine bitterness and that jammy citrus - but it isn’t bad overall.

Bottle in Gabrovo, Bulgaria - picked up at Oddbins London Bridge. Pours hazy, bright gold with a creamy, tight white foam head. The aroma holds a bit of tangy lemon, lightly soured tangerine, some pale bread, pine needles and hay. Medium sweet flavor with more tangy citrus character, some zippy mandarin orange, tangerine, some sugary pale bread malts, minerals, grass. Medium bodied with fine, spritzy carbonation. Lightly warming to finish with subtle sticky and oily hop resin, light herbal pine, more dry minerals, some understated bready malts, mild citric lemon, tangy tangerine. Interesting stuff. Quite drinkable for the strength. The tangy citrus character is interesting, like an overripe clementine or something. Novel stuff.
