Description
Rocky Head Brewery is a micro (5BBL) brewery set up by a group of friends inspired by the American Craft Brewing scene. The brewery is probably the most ramshackle in the UK, equipment sourced and modified from here, there and everywhere.. It seems to work though! We craft artisanal batches of intensely flavoured pale ale by hand, loaded with American and NZ hops.

Bottle from Oddbins, Blackheath - Fuzzy/hazy gold pour with a medium white head and persistent lacing. Citrus hoppy number with prominent grapefruit and orange. Also pine, mineral malt and with a good sweet/bitter balance. High abv is very much hidden here. Very impressed with this. (D15)

Bottle from Oddbins at London Bridge. A hazy amber/golden coloured pour with a small white head on top. Hoppy, malty, pine aroma. Tastes similar, hoppy, pine, malty, slight grapefruit, floral. Quite complex and clearly a well made beer. It is almost an excellent brew but needs a little something extra.

Bottle at home in London. Pours hazy dark gold with a small, frothy white head. Nose holds some rich, toasty pine, dry pale malts, dry citrus. Light to medium sweet flavor, some sticky pine, light dry leaves, some pithy grapefruity and orange, toasty bread. Medium bodied with fine carbonation. Fairly resinous to finish with dirty pine, orange, dry bread, citrus rind. Quite a nice little APA here. Pretty hefty pine character.

Very hazy amber beer, good pale cream coloured head. Palate is semi soft and semi dry with fine carbonation. Good malt base, a little caramel and lactose sweetness. Decent hops strike a good balance - piney citrus but pine dominates. Minty coolness. Medium bitterness. Finishes dry with a bitter linger. Outstanding debut beer - this is well balanced with a nice earthy grounded feel about it that reminds me very much of early Kernel.
