Purchased at Bottles and Cans in Chicago, IL; enjoyed on Valentine’s Day...half way through the month of Feb! I’m surprised by the lower ratings on this because this is a pretty great black IPA. Appearance is a moderately thick pitch black with a rich tan head that laces to the glass. Aroma of floral hops and light chocolate & cocoa. Taste is really fantastic for this one, a really nice blend of chocolate and hazelnut, with a great bitterness that is a bit subtle, finishing with even more nutty, cocoa notes. When I saw \"IPA\" on the can I wasn’t expecting this. The mouthfeel is lightly oily. Really really great flavor, very good stuff.

16oz can pours an inky black with some lacing, tan head. Looks bigger than it is. Smells a little bigger than it is too. Aroma is heavy with roasted grain, toast, the lactose is definitely there too, the vanilla is faint in the nose, molasses, cocoa nibs, light mocha. Flavor is nicely blended, chocolate, coffee, vanilla, malt are all working harmoniously, bread crust, a little soil. Full bodied, sweet, lightly creamy finish. For me, I think this could do without the lacto.

Enjoyed from can pour at Township in Chicago, IL prior to my band playing. I've been meaning to try this's, happy I finally did! Appearance is pitch black, light tan rim. Aroma mostly of chocolate malt with light vanilla and coffee notes, smells good. Taste is fantastic! It's going to be -10 here in a couple of days and this is the type of beer to drink for that weather. Rich in lactose and vanilla with huge chocolate notes. Definitely sweet, but great. Also, nice hazelnut notes, almost like Nutella. Happy to have had this!

My Son-in-Law (Matt) had to visit Media in Philly earlier this year and I asked him to find me something interesting to bring home: he chose this Mexican style peasant lager. He has brought some real hideous stuff over the years on his travels, so I shouldn’t have expected a great deal I suppose. Anyway the 650ml bottle was duly colded and opened on 22 Dec 13: Matt and I shared it, no lime used in the tasting! The beer was golden yellow with a slight haze to mine because I poured everything left in the bottle into my glass. The white head tried to hang around but failed somewhat. The nose was grainy with a mini citrus hop hint: gets my usual 3 for an almost odourless lager/pilsner. The taste was refreshing, summery and fairly light in flavour: More sweet than the aroma suggested and those citrus notes disappeared in the mouth. This was OK to be honest. Wrong time of the year (here in Shropshire) for this type of beer but a lot better than I thought it might be. I’m not a fan of Mexican lagers which is why it was bought for me. At least the other beer Matt brought back will test my taste buds: in fact it’s a ’Humdinger’ of a beer, Magic Hat’s Burnpile Smoked Porter!

Poured from a bottle it is a dark brown with a slight head. The srioma is of chocolate and the taste is of roasted coffee and chocolate. That lingers bitter on gge palate
