Description
Pucker Up & Join the Sour Revolution

Cascade Brewing has been a pioneer in the sour beer renaissance since 2006 and is the proud innovator of the Northwest Sour Ale. We are, by nature, the definition of artisanal brewing: we’re not bound by stylistic guidelines, just our own imagination and the ingredients we can access. Our distinctive sour beer blends feature fruit forward, barrel-aged ales that offer a complex array of flavors derived from Northwest grown ingredients, with each release capturing the unique subtleties of that year’s growing season. Our beers are brewed at our original brewery in Southwest Portland, then blended and aged at our nearby Blending House, which holds more than 1,300 oaks barrels and nine foudre tanks.

Tap @ Raccoon Lodge: Amber/copper pour with a small white head. Aroma is well-balanced of sweet and tart with subtle ba notes. Some fruity tones make their way through with a mild acidity. Flavor is where its at with this brew: Dark fruits, sweet, tart, sour, oaky notes, vanilla; they’re all here. Just blended so well. The most impressive from the sample tray.

Tap @ Raccoon Lodge: Pours a light golden color with a nice off-white head and good lacing. Aroma is spicey and fruity with just a light yeast note. Tastes spicey and fruity with some sweet and tart notes. Oak aged hops, wth? This has a really mellow hop note with just a bit of citrus and florals. Light yeast and retains a crisp level of spices. This was different, but good.

Tap @ Raccoon Lodge: Kind of a pale yellow/golden color with a large white head. Nose is plentiful in raspberries, not much wheat. Flavor is full of that same fresh raspberry sweet and tartness combined with just a little wheat and a subtle hopping. This was the sleeper of the sample tray...

Tap @ Raccoon Lodge: Dark brown, near black pour with a finger of creamy brown head. Aroma is plentiful in roast with some coffee and light cocoa. Flavor retains the heavy roast presence, but adds more chocolate and less coffee. It gets a bit dry in the tail and has a tiny bit of bittersweet amongst the heavy roasty notes.

Tap @ Raccoon Lodge: A amber/copper pour with a sizeable sandy colored head. Decent lacing. Aroma is hoppy with citrus (mainly) and florals. A bit of caramel and toffee. Flavor gets hoppy up front with florals and citrus before mellowing into a sweeter, toffee and caramel finish.

Tap @ Raccoon Lodge: Blond in color, medium white head. Aroma is mild of sweet malt, a little spicey, and some floral hops. Flavor gets into some trouble up front and is kind of bland, but it recovers from a malty-watery grave by smoothing out into a spicey and floral finish.

Tap @ Raccoon Lodge: Darker copper pour with a small beige head. Aroma of caramel malt and roasty tones. A little earthy in the flavor with some more malt, roast and caramel, into a crisp floral finish. Some citrus notes in the middle. Not bad.
