Cask at the Euston Tap, London. Pours rich, dark brown with a foamy, brown head. Nice nose, lots of charred malts, dirt, some alcohol and fruit, hints of maple wood, modest roast, tobacco. Big sweet flavor with some dark, bitter chocolate, burnt wood, dirt, bitter wood, light burnt grass, earth, some charcoal and tar. Full bodied with fine carbonation. Sweet, modestly warming finish with plenty of bitter earth. There are some kind of nice burnt oak notes in addition to other charred malts, burnt cocoa and scorched earth. In the end, though, it’s just a little too bitter, slightly too syrupy, just a bit rough around the edges and not altogether coherent. I think a bit of age will definitely improve this beer as the alcohol edge softens and the hops fade out a bit. A nice beer overall.

Cask at the Euston Tap 12th May 2012. Pours jet black and impenetrable, good strong aroma. Mouth is soft and full, loads of flavour, coffee and leather, quite sweet. Not bad at all, 3rd pint enough for me though, keg would be interesting, perhaps slightly cooler than the cask

Cask@Reading Beer Festival 2012. Pitch black colour, brown head. Aroma is nutty, fruity, nectary and also has some mild liquorice. Flavour is spicy with hops, liquorice and more hops.

(Cask at Cask P&K, Pimlico, London, 20 April 2012) Black colour with brief, beige head. Malty, roasted nose with notes of pine needles, liquorice and coffee. Malty, roasted taste with coffee, pine needles, grapefruit, dark chocolate, vanilla and a generous piney, citric bitterness in the finish. More than medium body, slightly sweetish. Excellent black IPA with an impressive hop presence, backed up by a solid malt profile.

Cask at Craft Beer Co, London on 13th April 2012. Thick black. Rich fruity aroma. Roast/burnt malt and spices in mouth; very bitter with smoke notes. Bitterness and rich fruits in the aftertaste. Velvety mouthfeel with good body. Great stuff!

Cask-conditioned at the Three Tuns, Bristol 6/05/2012. Dark brown with hints of red and a slight, off-white head. Aroma of roasted malts, fatty bacon and caramel, with a hint of leafy hop. Flavour was sweetish, with some dark fruit, chocolate and a dry roasty finish. Very drinkable. Part of the "freestyle Friday" series.

Cask-conditioned at the Three Tuns, Bristol 6/05/2012. Golden in colour with next to no head. Aroma of grapefruit, gooseberries and a touch of sweet malts. Flavour had loads of citrus fruit with some slight malty creaminess and suggestion of ash, before a lingering, bitter finish. Very enjoyable.

Cask at the Euston Tap, London. Pours lightly hazy, dark gold with a small, foamy head. Leaves and big toasted grass nose, some pine. Medium sweet flavor with loads of abrasive hops, light toast, oily grass, sandy dirt. Medium bodied with fine carbonation. Mildly sticky, deeply abrasive and raw bitterness to finish, some resinous pine, grass. Yeah, it’s just a bit too rough.
