650 ml bottle. The beer is black with a small tan head. The aroma has light caramel against a background of roast. It’s mostly caramel, though. Burnt sugar, molasses, a little dough. Taste is odd. Very low on chocolate. Good amount of sweetness. Lots of caramel. However, there’s a very strong roast flavor, after the initial hit and it builds into the finish. Finish is all roast bitterness. Much too roasty for me. No chocolate middle to even things out. Just all light caramel and heavy roast. Medium body, not very thick for the abv. Not much booze or off flavors. Really not my favorite take on the genre. The roast is just heavy, almost acrid.

Sample at the brewpub. The beer is a very dark brown color with a medium thin light beige head that dissipates quickly to a wispy film. Spotty lacing. Roasted malt, chocolate and nutty aroma. Light-bodied with flavors of roasted malt, cocoa and mild coffee. The finish is sweet with a malty aftertaste. Decent overall.
