Jorre Vanhemmens is a young brewer from Belgium. When he was 16, he wrote a school paper about beer. 10 years later, he’s Head Brewer at Alvinne Brewery, world-famous for its excellent sour beers. In 2018 he’s launching a beer and mead line of his own special recipes created with lots of love and dedication under the name De Mederie.

26th Jun 2026: 375ml bottle. Tastes a little strong, berries have subsided a lot over the years.. honey barely noticeable.. some sharp apple in the distance, better fresh.
19th Jan 2025: 375ml bottle. Pours a deep dark hazed reddish colour, off-white head. Inviting aroma of oak, cider barn, berry mush. Flavour profile presents a good oak barrel cloak, medium bodied with myriad red berries, light tannic close with a wild almost gueuze like sour complexity. Interesting, decent.

First time I see a mead with a wooden top cork, was a bit of a surprise with the corkscrew. Drinks like a fun liquor, grape concentrate, warm tannic port notes. Never had either white port or vincotto original but this is nice. Perfect for winter.

12/11/2024. Bottle shared by danlo, cheers Ed. Pours deep maroon red with no head. Aroma is blackcurrant, redcurrant, honey, woody, musty, red grape. Medium sweetness, quite heavy drying tartness. Tannic finish. Nice.

Panda at home thanks to Ed Danlo. A clear, deep plummy crimson coloured pour with a no head. Aroma is intense jammy red fruit, plum, jammy, blackcurrant, boozy ribena, . Flavour is composed of medium sweet, jammy tart fruit, blackcurrant, red wine grape, vinous fruit, plum jam. Lovcely. Palate is medium sweet, thick, oily, light tart, almost still. Intense lingering red fruit. Smashing stuff.

Panda at home, thanks to Ed Danlo, 20/10/24. Big blackcurrant / claret colour with little in the way of a head. Nose is sweet berry pulp, booze, herb, blackcurrant jam, subtle honey. Taste comprises blackcurrant jam, red berry compote, sugars, honey drizzle, warming alcohol. Full bodied, oily feel, balanced rising booze at the curtain call. Decent enough Mead if a touch 1D.

500ml bottle from Etre Gourmet. Pours a pale golden yellow, sparkling. Aroma sees the honey shine with settled dry apple cider notes. Flavour continues, pleasant gentle honey influence, good harmony alongside the dry apple fruit.. works well.
