Cask at Brewvival 2012. Pours a hazy dark orange color with a thin frothy tan head. Aroma of citrus, earthy notes, vegetal and tannic notes, strawberries. The taste is big spice notes, lemongrass, citrus, tropical fruits, strawberries and tannic notes. Medium-full bodied. Oh yeah, 4900th rating.

Reddish amber, no head. The aroma is brett, a little pedio and some fruitiness. Taste is kind of lifeless, slightly floral and with some pedio. Hmmm...this was better when I tried it a few years ago. Today it kind of goes nowhere.

Bottle on the Eurostar to Brussels, thanks to Leighton. It pours deep red-brown, with a thin beige head. The nose is caramel, toffee, wood, cinnamon, nutmeg, raisin and currant. The taste is currant, raisin, plum, prune, booze, wood, caramel, toffee, some brett, nut and spice, with a warming finish. Full body and lively carbonation, but goes flat quickly. Not too shabby, perhaps a bit too boozy and sweet for me though.

750 ml corked and caged bottle. 2009 vintage. Damn, I was hoping for something fresher. Didn’t know it was two years old til I took the cap off and saw the year printed on the cork. Pours a cloudy dark orange with a medium-large beige head; collapses into a thin film fairly quick. Aroma is barnyard funk, earth, floral. Taste is sweet and sour, a bit meaty in the finish. Tastes its age. Carbonation is medium-high and the body is medium-full. Decent. Re-rate: gotta lower my appearance score. Beer loses all traces of head and foam completely 2/3 of the way through the first glass. In my second glass, the head fizzes out in a loud cacophany of bubbles, looking completely flat in about two seconds.

Smells very tart and yeasty, kinda worrisome since I’m expecting at least grass and wheat and bananasandcloves. The pour reassures the beer’s quality, though, thick and hazy and foamy. The lackadaisical nose doesn’t prepare you for the delicious depths you’re about to fall into. Apple cider, bananasandcloves, Granny Smith apples, cinnamon, and an earthy, mildly hoppy finish that cleans up any residual sweetness. Bubbly yet smooth enough to allow the flavors to do their thing before they flit away. (5/22/09)

7/1/2009 Received in trade from Gtreid, thanks for the opportunity. There are no bottling dates on the label or cork, but this bottle is green I think they changed to brown bottles shortly after I got this one, stuck it in my cellar and forgot about it. Pours a clear golden amber color with a bubbly white head that dissipates, but never really leaves. Smell is spicy right out of the gate. I pick up pepper, lemon, other citrus, some funk, a menthol type herb smell, slight natural food store aroma. Different, I like it. Taste is citrus and with a slight funk. Most of the aroma doesn’t carry over into the taste. Starts with sweet malt that melds to a citrus, menthol, and funk finishing with a dry lingering mild citrus. Crisp Carbonation, medium body, slightly syrupy in the mouth. Great different Belgian style Saison. I could see some of these going down on a warm summer night.

6/29/2009 I’ve had this bottle in my cellar for a year or more. Pours a deep dark copper color with beautiful ruby hues when held to light, Huge bubbly white head sticks around forever. Smells of sweet fruit and malts, I pick up cherries and plums mostly. Slight alcohol in the nose, but not overbearing. Taste is sweet with malt, touch of alcohol and slight phenolic barely cut down the malt sweetness. Honey, dark fruits, a bit of funk, some alcohol and a bitter finish. Carbonation is naturally high, mouthfeel is sticky/syrupy, body is medium. There’s a lot going on here, I really enjoyed this one. If I had to fault it I would say it was a touch sweet, but that could be me sitting on this bottle to long. Great Brew!
