Cask at the Dove Street Inn, Ipswich. Pours very dark brown with a lasting beige head. Aroma is malty, light roasted chocolate and liquorice, hoppy with dark fruits. Light sweetness, medium bitterness. Medium body, oily texture. Finish is dry, fruity. Very good dark malty ale.

Gravity cask at the Rose & Crown, Sandhurst. An opaque dark mahogany colour with a loose beige head; sweet chocolate aroma; really dry and malty in the mouth with a deep earthy licorice bitterness; and a long dry finish. Very satisfying.

Near-black red beer. Beige head. Sweet fruit and toasted malt in both the smell and taste. Seems too sweet at first but there is some bitterness that comes through to balance it out. Not bad.

Cask@Oliver Twist, Stockholm (Backlog). Orange colour, small creamy off-white head. Aroma is fruity, floral, some toffee and mild grassy and wooden notes. Flavour is fruity, floral, wooden, resiny and mild herbal notes. Balanced, but as it warms up a bit it gets rather grainy notes too.

Cask at the William Robert Loosley (JDW), Wycombe. Golden-amber with a thin white head. Obvious peach up front with some grapefruit and bready malt following. Light dryness, moderate bitterness. It’s fine, but lacks crispness and is not a patch on the similar Cloudwater beer I had earlier this week.

Cask-conditioned at the Commercial Rooms (JDW), Bristol March 2016. Golden in colour, with a slight, white, head. Aroma of sweetish, tangerine fruits,, with a touch of citrus hop. Flavour had biscuity malts, more fruits and a decent, dryish, finish. Good.
