Bottle thnx to the brewers, via my Dutch friend Bram. Pours very dark brown, huge white head in the pour, no gusher though. Smell is rather common for a BIPA, hoppy, some ’metalic’ dark malts. Taste is very sharp bitter, hoppy aroma is rather hidden thnx to the overpowering black malts. This reminds me very much of my own homebrew’s black IPA. Which is a good thing, since I try to brew what i like myself. Very overcarbonated though. Some coffee tones, bitter, bit fruity / full hoppy flavour. I like this. Sad for the overpowering carbo though.

Note: not sure whether this is any different from the "regular exploded double IPA. Bottle @ home shared with Joes. Hazy dark orange color, medium sized off-white to beige head. Smell and taste malts, firm bitter, hops, bitter hops, some resin and pine lightly. Decent body and carbonation. Ok beer.

Bottle shared with Erwin van Moll and some other people @ Van Moll Brewpub. Murky brown color, medium sized beige head. Aroma is malts, roast, earthy, ash and some smoke. Taste malts, roasted malts, some smoke, earthy and earthy roasty smoke bitterness. Charred oak. Hops are missing imo. Medium to full body, firm carbonation. Pretty nice beer, but just like "Not totally black" this also is not a Black IPA. At least not a good one. But as I said, a nice beer nonetheless.

Opaque darkest brown colour, good two finger fluffy light tan head, recedes slowly to a lasting thick layer, light lacing. Roasted malt nose, cacao, liquorice, burnt caramel. Taste medium bitter, light to medium sweet, liquorice, chocolate notes. Medium body, oily to watery texture, average carbonation, aftertaste medium bitter, roasty, chocolate, spices (cloves, laurel). Overall too roasted to be a real dark IPA, hops (six varieties!) almost totally subdued, but besides that a nice beer...

13/XII/14 - 33cl as "Not Totally Black" @ Dijleschuimers Bierproeffestival (Kessel-Lo) - BB: n/a (2014-1496) Thanks to the Antwerp Zythos crew and others for sharing beers at the table!
Clear dark brown beer, creamy beige head, little stable, non adhesive. Aroma: sweet, caramel, dark chocolate, cocoa powder, bit sugary, cookies. MF: soft carbon, medium body. Taste: very roasted, little sweet, caramel, sour touch, pretty bitter. Aftertaste: roasted, mocha, bitter touch. Would totally not classify this under black IPA (only learned the beer style when entering my rating).
