Can - pours clear blood orange, large puffy beige head, dissipates slowly, nice lacing. Aroma is pine, citrus, forest floor, caramel. Light sweet and light bitter, less maltiness than expected from the color. Kind of boring, actually. Fairly light body.

On my second flight of the day inside the Back Bay Bar (Wholefoods, Newport Beach): 13th April 2014. Pours a misty old golden colour and came with a white wisp for a head. Floral hop nose which turned bitter in the mouth. Hops ruled the whole brew, peppery at times, citrus notes coming through as it warmed a little. I’m warming to these sort of beers, but my delicate English palate isn’t used to so many hops in one glass yet.

On tap at Harry’s Hofbrau. Pours a light golden with a full white head that leaves a collar. Aroma is solid hop presence of citrus and grapefruit with restrained pine. Flavor mirrors aroma but everything is turned down a notch for a double and the malt is more pronounced. Moderate high bitterness leaves this beer a little disjointed.

On draught at Toronado. Clear dark golden color with a medium off-white head that dissipates steadily to an outer ring. Short strings of lacing on the glass. Aroma of hops, citrus and malt. Medium-bodied with flavors of piney hops, grapefruit and malt. The finish is moderately bitter with a resiny hops aftertaste. Decent overall.

From a 500 ml can. Hazy red color. Rocky off white head. Aroma’s: rasinous, some caramel, some citrus (more citrus after a while). Retronasal there’s caramel sweetness and citrus fruit, some hop bitterness. Flavor is moderate sweet and moderate bitter, dark malts, caramel. Medium bodied. Finishes with a moderate bitterness. Decent, but certainly not mind blowing.

Can in our hotel room, San Diego, from Public Beer LB, 18/04/14. Dark chestnut brown with a well appointed light tan covering that retains well. Nose is light roast, toffee, nutty pangs, brown bread, hint of cocoa. Taste carries a little less depth than the aroma, earthy tones, light smoke, biscuit, brown bread, faint cocoa. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close. So so.
