The beer is a light gold color. The liquid is somewhat hazy. Medium white head, dissipates mostly after a minute or two. The aroma is mostly citrus hop flavor, lime and orange. There’s a funny stale vegetal note in there. Mild malt character. Boring and what’s there isn’t great. Taste is mildly dry. Light bitterness. Little flavor. Less stale flavor but it’s there in the background. Not quite crisp enough to really be refreshing. Mild. Just eh. Light body. Odd staleness in the finish. Not great.

Poured from a 12 oz can. Aroma is malt forward with moderately strong roast notes, some lighter chocolate and a bit of toasted bread. Light notes of dark caramel and toffee as well. Moderate dark fruit notes of prunes and raisins. A light smokey, ash note in the aroma. Pours a very dark brown, but not quite black with a medium sized, thick, creamy, mocha head that recedes slowly to a thin film that lingers thicker on the edges. Moderate lacing and no legs. Flavor is moderately sweet with a strong malt presence. Lots of roast with a bit lighter notes of dark chocolate. Light notes of toasted bread, dark caramel and toffee. A bit of a smokey, ash, tobacco and leather note. Medium light notes of prunes, raisin and plum. Medium bitterness. Mouthfeel is medium light bodied with medium carbonation. Low, but present astringency and low alcohol warmth. Overall, a pretty simple porter but nicely made. Very clean, great malt profile, nice fruit esters. Brewed perfectly to style, but that also means it’s a bit boring. I can’t think of the last time I had a regular old robust porter, so this is pretty enjoyable.

Poured from a 12 oz can. Aroma is fairly hoppy but with an herbal, vegetable and spicy hop note with some woody characteristics. Light grain notes with cracker malt notes and a touch of toasted bread. A hint of a red apple ester. Pours a hazy, pale gold with a medium sized, thick white head that recedes to the edges where it lingers. Moderate lacing and no legs. Flavor is slightly sweet with a nice grain note and some cracker character. Medium bitterness. Light hop profile with a woody and slight grapefruit note. A light resinous note with hints of fruit notes. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with medium carbonation. Low astringency and low alcohol warmth. Overall, I was not a fan of the aroma - it smalls like old, nasty hops. The flavor is much better though, but still comes off as a bit stale. Hop profile is a bit better in the flavor, but that may just be because it is so muted.

Tap at JL Beers Bismarck I’m pretty hungover after trying to have fun in this town so easing into travel day with a pale lager. Pours gold light nose of straw and pepper. Tastes the same light lemon as well. Served very cold and it’s crisp not bad for style. N

Can. The beer is fairly light amber in color. Moderate haze. Medium-sized white head. Good amount of lacing, fine retention. The aroma has some decent tangerine and mango upfront but there’s a deeper, less pleasant hop flavor below that. Big pine resin and a bit too much onion. Mild pepper, a little grass, some floral flavor, mild raspberry. Not bad. Taste is a step back, unfortunately. Big and bland pine resin bitterness. Plenty more onion, as well. Long grapefruit rind and pine finish. The sweeter hop flavors are quite mild here. Fairly dry. Only medium bitterness but lacking in complexity and good hop flavors. Mouthfeel has only mild creaminess, which is a surprise. Fairly light body.

Live rating on 10th May 2016. 12oz can from Greg Wilson, cheers mate for my first ever beer from North Dakota (my 101st region on RateBeer). Poured slowly into a Corsendonk stemmed tulip glass at my daughters place in Orange County. Decent white head on a hazy, dull Orange pour. Fruity and hoppy with an orange feel. As the beer warms a little it becomes more bitter and drier citrus fruits like grapefruit come to the fore.

12oz can brought to me by a co-worker. Poured a clear black color with a small tan head. Aroma was some light roasted malt notes, very light bitter coffee, but not really all that coffee. Light bitter roasted notes, light toasted and roasted character.
