Description
Founder Tsjomme Zijlstra's idea to start his own brewery came to him after his time in England. He started to brew his own beer at home and decided in 2014 that he wanted go bigger. He met Menno and John, owners of Brouwerij de Molen in Bodegraven, and told them his story. They taught him how to brew with one of their old brewing installations. Kaapse Brouwers was born.
We are Kaapse Brouwers. We are the brewers who introduced craft beer to Rotterdam, and Rotterdam to the world. With our Kaapse recipes we brew non-conformist beers. We choose for bold recipes and love to experiment with different flavors to create contemporary craft beers.

7/IX/24 - sampled @ BBP Wanderlust Beer Festival (Brussels), BB: n/a (2024-853) Thanks to my GBV buddies for sharing today’s beers!
Clear orange beer, small off-white head, a little stable, a bit adhesive, leaving some lacing in the glass. Aroma: lemony, a bit yeasty, floral touch, a bit funky, a little dank. MF: ok carbon, medium body. Taste: a bit malty, grains, minty, sweet, a little fruity, some mango. Aftertaste: rather soapy, a bit floral, good bitterness, decent beer.

7/IX/24 - sampled @ BBP Wanderlust Beer Festival (Brussels), BB: n/a (2024-852) Thanks to my GBV buddies for sharing today’s beers!
Clear pale yellow blond beer, small creamy white head, a little stable, a bit adhesive. Aroma: floral, pretty funky, sourish impression, some tropical fruits, minty as well, a bit weird. MF: ok carbon, medium body. Taste: pretty watery, grains, malty, soft bitterness, floral, soapy. Aftertaste: dry, a bit grassy, malty, soft bitterness, soapy, floral, meh, not bad, but I don’t like it very much either.

Little cloudy yellow beer, small creamy white head, a little stable, non adhesive. Aroma: sweet, hint of vanilla, malty, grains, soft fruity touch, impression of pastry, lactose maybe? MF: ok carbon, medium body. Taste: nice acidity up front, lemony, dry, quite some (fake) vanilla, vanillin, very sourish. Aftertaste: dry, lemony, again lots of fake vanilla, citrus, sourish finish.

As Kaapse Nada. Poured a clear, light yellow colour with a thin white head. The aroma is light citrus. The flavour is light bitter and sweet, with a crisp, light juicy citrus, watery, light hop bitter palate. Light bodied with lively carbonation.

(Draught at Arendsnest, Amsterdam, 16 July 2024) Black colour with brief, beige head. Malty, roasted, boozy nose with notes of chocolate, coffee, whisky, wood and herbs. Malty, roasted taste with chocolate, coffee, herbs, oak wood, whisky and a warming finish with a balanced roasty bitterness. Almost full body, quite sweet. Lots of whisky coming through, making it a bit sweet and boozy. But quite rich and tasty. Very nice.

Decent example of the style. Comes across a but stale-like oxidized in the sharp bitterness for me. Doesn’t have the less pokey feel of the classicis. Arendsnest ams
