Description
Hanssens Artisanaal is the oldest independent geuze blender in the whole world. At Hanssens, no beer is actually brewed! Instead, they pursue a profession that was very important in the history of lambic style beers, they are solely blenders of beer.

Hanssens takes this a step further, and actually blends batches from different breweries in their area. This used to be a very common practice, but Hanssens is now the oldest remaining blender. They bring to this endeavor a variety of barrels, some up to one hundred years old, and a passion and a love for the tradition of Geuze and Lambics.

Re-rate: Poured from 375mL bottle. Same tasting notes, but this one seems to have more depth. Okay. Sept 04, 2022 (7/3/7/3/13=3.3): Poured from 375mL bottle (pkg perforated 4th week of Feb 2020). Garnet red with very minimal off white head. Low carbonation, almost flat, light acetone, gentle cassis, mild acidity, lacking complexity. Very average lambic. Aug 06, 2022 (7/3/7/3/14=3.4): Poured from bottle @ FHF 2022 (backlog notes from Aug 06). Hazed red with minimal head. Funk and gentle cassis. Okay.

375ml (FHF leftovers from Jonny) shared with Ryan. Bottled on the 4th week of February 2020. Appearance: hazy purple with a weak rose head. Aroma: highly fermented black currants with acetone notes, some funk, finishes with currant notes. Taste: super low carbonation (well, there was no even ant sound after getting the cork out), moderately acidic, some funk and acetone. Overall: another disappointing experience from today, this one is not good. Not sure how the low carbo did affect it, but not that much probably, especially that it appears it is their regular carbonation level.
