Description
In mythology, literature and many cultures, the Raven is seen as a culture hero, a revered and benevolent, transformative figure. The Raven helps people, blesses them with gifts and shapes the world. But at the same time, he is a frivolous trickster, a light-hearted prankster who is sometime gluttonous and impatient. The Raven as our totem works perfectly. We like to think we are creative, wise, playful and a bit bird-brained; just like those wacky Ravens.

12 ounce can from Tavour. Chestnut brown pour. Frothy tan head. Excellent lacing. Sweet roasted malt aroma hints at dark dried fruits and toffee. Flavor is dried dark cherries, caramel, toasted nuts. Sticky mouthfeel, spicy hops. Lacks the earthy, peaty malt character associated with the style. Tasty, nonetheless.

16oz can from Boise Co-op. Foggy golden pour, small, sturdy white foam head. Light grassy aroma, touch of hops. Taste brings soft, bready pale malts, mild hop profile. Very smooth, easy to drink, close to an IPL.

Clear golden pour with off-white foam; decent head retention. Aroma is piney, grassy, candy sweet malt. Taste has moderate to high pithy bitterness with flavors like the aroma.

12 oz can. Aroma is packed with lime, a little grain, grass. Pours clear pale golden with a two finger cream-white soapy head with great retention. Taste has a light tartness from the lime, complimenting a grassy malt backbone; faint hop bitterness. Thin bodied, crisp, clean, and refreshing.

Draft pint at the Virginia Inn, Seattle on 11th August 2025. Taken with a lovely Lamb Ragu, sat outside. Slight haze to the golden pour, white affair on top for a while. Piney resinous feel with a grapefruit overtone, some malty notes in there too. Overall a nice IPA and it did go nicely with the meal.

16 oz can from Pilgrims or Smokes and Suds, can’t remember which. Aroma is chocolaty, woody, toffee, bourbon, lightly smoky, raisin, molasses, licorice. Pours very dark brown with a one finger off-white head that falls into a ring quickly. Taste is highly sweet with a moderately bitter edge. Molasses is the dominant flavor. Not enough smoke for me personally—it really is just a hint.

12 ounce can from Tavour. Chestnut brown pour. Frothy beige head. Mild toasty aroma hints at coconut. Flavor is light coffee, milk chocolate and coconut. The color and texture are a bit light for the style. But the flavors of coffee, cocoa and coconut are well represented. Medium bodied and flavorful.

Dark brown, somewhat oily-looking. This has a light smokiness, sort of a date-like sweetness. Similar palate, again those dates, fig newtons, soft syrup, malt, with a light smoke. The rye barrel definitley shows through in the finish, including a shot of alcohol.

16 oz. can, pours a deep dark brown with a small beige head. Aroma has a nice smoky bourbon barrel character, toasted caramel, and a bit of brown sugar. Flavour is very smoky, with plenty of bourbon barrels, moderate ashy smoke, and toasted caramel. Solid blend of smoke and bourbon, with moderate sweetness. Can’t say it’s the most complex, but it’s well-constructed.
