Description
We are Grainli® - a company focussed on the trade of plant-based ressources like malting barley. Instead of just talking about other beers, we wanted to create our own beer. In cooperation with experienced brewers the brand „Barbarossa I am“ was created. We started with our four beers – 3 of them barrel-aged: Imperial Stout, Porter and Hansebock. Our Gose, while not barrel-aged also incorporates wood into the process via the oak chips it is matured on. Namesake of our beers is Friedrich the I. (nicknamed Barbarossa), who allegedly gave Hamburg the so called „Freibrief“ which enabled the city to trade in beer and grain.

330ml bottle. Slightly milky, yellow-ish, pale golden colour with huge, frothy, osteoporosing, snow white head. Weak, slightly woody, minimally tangy aroma, hints of oak, a touch of smoked sauerkraut, minimally waxy and dusty overtones. Taste is mildly tart, tangy and fruity, minimally woody, hints of yellow stone fruit, nectarine, a touch of salt, a weak touch of oak. Watery texture, minimally dry and astringent palate, coarse, lively carbonation. Nice composition, but weak, light and cautious, nevertheless fairly refreshing - so-so.

330ml bottle. Opalescent, dark yellow-ish to orange, golden colour with small to average, frothy, moderately lasting, minimally lacing, white head. Woody aroma, hints of oak, widely disguised, somewhat neutral, malty background. Taste is rather neutral, pale malty with subtle residual sweetness, woody and minimally fruity, notes of oak, a touch of grape sugar, orange peel. Creamy-watery texture, smooth and soft palate, very fine, soft, creamy carbonation. Smooth and mild, mellow - nice, nothing spectacular.
