Description
Highland Brewing was founded in 1994 by retired engineer and entrepreneur Oscar Wong, establishing it as the pioneer of Asheville, NC’s booming craft beer industry. With a portfolio that is equal parts established and inventive, Highland is known for consistently excellent beer. Proudly regional, Highland is distributed in North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, Tennessee, Georgia, Florida, and Kentucky. Highland is the largest independent family-owned brewery born in the Southeast, with the third largest solar array in an American craft brewery. The brewery is in a rehabilitated manufacturing facility on a hilltop, affording space for thousands of visitors to enjoy limited release beers, tours, and live music. In addition, the event center and rooftop can be reserved for private events. Since 2015, the company has been led by Wong’s daughter, Leah Wong Ashburn, and has 50 full-time employees.

2$ can of volatile brew from total wine in durham, nice place. Pour is a crystal clear pale tinty tint. Smell is somewhat alarming mild sweet permeating odd alky swee-swee-sweety suger cloying pine hops perfume, watch out. @ 9% I take a big initial hi-kickin alky slug. No warming sensations so far. Big foaming head at first then it reduces to craggy farm. So big, so bad, so impressively nasty. Of course from a cheap pale lager-lover's point of view, heheheh. Nasty nellie, who do you know? I'd rather drink a big bad impy, double imperial stout than one of these stupid style type brews. Its terribly, its f'ed up, its so terribly insulting for its on-style characteristics, LOL. Like this kind a beer, double imperial IPA, whew? Flip my numbers, its straight up IPA ass great. I know you'll like it, that's what pappan said!

OK, got this $2 can of IPA from total wine in cary NC. I don't like IPA but this can was pretty cheap so I thought I'd get a tick and a buzz: you know, kill 2 birds with one stone. Not really hazy, just plain old pale clear yellow. Nose is a little off sweet. It does have a seemingly creamy thin head. First taste impression is that its the same as any other contemporary IPA. It does however have a little bit of an undesired augmented astringent aspect to it. Next sip is the same, extremely common IPA bitter forward with some uncivilized rude astringent straight up ass. Towards the finish, the 7% abv is starting to perform its euphoric effects. When I swish the dregs in the bottom of the can, it does become just a little hazy, but not enough to say its truly a NEIPA, just saying. Well, at least I kot the buzz if not the enjoyment. Just another one in a brazillion common contemporary IPA out there. There, you have it.

2 week old bottle A: Poured pale clear gold with 1 of thick white head. End of glass retention and sheet lacing. S: Tart lemon, sweet orange and pine over light caramel. T: Very bitter hops. Pronounced lemon pith, zest and pulp followed by resinous pine and woody malt. Lemony citrus and pine linger. M: Medium full body, soft coating carbonation and chewy finish. O: Highland oddly does not state what hop is used in apparently a rotating hop beer. Extremely good all around though. Want more.

Decent, with a nice pop of peach, berry, and lime zest, followed by a moderate pine bitterness. Texture isn’t as soft and pillowy as you want, and the fruit-juice sweetness doesn’t play well with the bitter streak, but still a drinkable pint.

12 oz. can from Kroger in Brentwood, TN. Pours a crystal clear gold color with a large white head and excellent retention. Good lacing. Lots of streaming bubbles. Juicy hops aroma. Juicy hops flavor too with a soft bitter finish. Tastes more like a pale ale. Both the 6.5% ABV and 65 IBU are pretty well hidden. Medium body and dry finish. A better than average IPA.
