Description
Highland Brewing was founded in 1994 by retired engineer and entrepreneur Oscar Wong, establishing it as the pioneer of Asheville, NC’s booming craft beer industry. With a portfolio that is equal parts established and inventive, Highland is known for consistently excellent beer. Proudly regional, Highland is distributed in North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, Tennessee, Georgia, Florida, and Kentucky. Highland is the largest independent family-owned brewery born in the Southeast, with the third largest solar array in an American craft brewery. The brewery is in a rehabilitated manufacturing facility on a hilltop, affording space for thousands of visitors to enjoy limited release beers, tours, and live music. In addition, the event center and rooftop can be reserved for private events. Since 2015, the company has been led by Wong’s daughter, Leah Wong Ashburn, and has 50 full-time employees.

Bottle from the cellar unknown vintage but probably 10yrs old. Dark copper with a light red hue and a decent sized frothy tan head that persists. Light sherry but plenty of rich caramel and toast. Decent body moderate carbonation. Wow that's aged quite well.

From a 12 oz can. Pours a hazy orange straw with a big off white head. Aromas of dank hay. Flavors are bitter citrus with some sweet pale malts.

Sticky and sweet, with mild veins of berry, mandarin, and grapefruit, followed by sweet corn, caramel, and pine. Boozy as hell, and full of barleywine-ish sugary notes. Not bad, but heavy-handed.

The aromas are mainly slightly old resin hops with hints of caramel malt. Later some gaminess comes into play. Flavors are like nose, slightly sweet at first with increasing bitterness. It was canned in February but it really doesn't taste that fresh. Slate alcohol warm th at the very end along with a bit medicinal.

Pretty good, its been awhile since I've regularly drunk porters and stouts so it was nice to get back to this sort of thing. This one struck me as a good robust porter, notable roasty nose and flavor, the coffee didn't seem to come through quite so much, but hints of it were there, and thats fine. I don't have much to say about it but it was fine.

Copper color, thick tan head, toast and malt aroma. Taste is sweet malt, wood, toffee and caramel but balanced with enough floral hop bitterness to not be overly sweet or bitter. Some hop aftertaste.
