Bottle from Total Wine in Sacramento, CA. Pours translucent coppery gold with a white head. Aroma is floral with a touch of spice and some caramel background. Very pleasing. Med body or so. Flavor is earthy/floral/spicy/citrus. Good caramel support. For some reason a very simple thing is really seeming a bit towards complex. The flavor (after a lot of beer this evening) is fresh and delightful. Not quite dry and moderately bitter in the finish. Bitter enough!

From tap at Hopwater, San Francisco, as 1881 Sacramento Red Ale. Clear copper brown color with off white head. Malty and light hoppy aroma, caramel, bread, grass. Moderate sweet and light bitter taste. Light to medium oily body with soft carbonation.

Bomber from the Arden Whole Foods in Sacramento, CA. Pours brown with a slight tan head. Rich treacly/fruity aroma. Darkish fruit sort of - does seem to be persimmon. Med + body. Flavor is treacly/fruity/persimmony with perhaps a leather note. Different, and persimmons aren’t my go to fruit, but it works well on a cold evening in front of the fire.

Slightly sweet-ish, chocolately, dark malty aroma, hints of fruit-flavoured chocolate, tangerine and orange. Taste is slightly bitter hoppy and chocolately dark malty, subtle sweetness, hints of dark chocolate tangerine, orange, orange zest; minimally metallic finish.

Bomber from Corti Bros. Pours hazy copper with a whitish head. Faint aroma of blackberries with a bit of light malt. Near med body. Flavor is blackberry, but it isn’t strong. It’s dryish, yet the blackberry suggests a jam. Not very bitter at all. It’s really a different sort of berry beer. Flavors aren’t strong, but it’s quite pleasant. I’m at sixes and sevens on this. Just good or better than. Ah well. Update: even better on tap at the tap room.

Bomber from Total Wine in Folsom, CA. Pours amber gold with a white head. Med body. Flavor is slightly toasted malt, some citrus, and arguably pale stone fruit. It’s pretty dry, even tho malt has a firm presence, and it’s pretty bitter. Maybe a bit of earthy hop. Tasty stuff.

Bomber from a local grocery. Pours gold with a white head. Mild aromas of malt and pale fruits. Perhaps a citrus aspect. Med body, nearly. It’s rather spritely, citrus, pale fruits and light toffee. Not sure what the rice hulls add, but it’s fresh and tasty. Decently bitter, and fairly dry. Thinking of it as a tastier than usual blonde ale.

Bomber from Corti Bros. Pours clear copper with an off-white head. Aroma of fruity hops over mild caramel. Med body or so. Flavor is fruity/earthy over mildly sweet caramel. It is definitely bitter, but not harshly so. Making me think of peaches and Cluster. More IBU than the typical old school, but not so bitter as the biggest and latest. Pretty good drink for getting something bitter.
