Description

330 ml can from my EU Local Swap 4/2015 sender MrHangover, thanks!
Dark yellow, hazy body, with a medium, frothy, lacing, off-white head.
Aroma of peat, smoked wood, orange, subtle citrus, some sweet malts.
Tastes of smoked wood, some peat, citrus, orange, candy, some peach.
Medium, a bit creamy mouthfeel, with a moderate carbonation.
Finishes smokey, medium bitter, a bit dry, fruity, a bit malty.

OK. I’m not a big fan of peat, so I don’t like the smell much. Taste is a bit better, with more IPA notes. Overall a unique beer, but nothing I would drink again I guess.

0,33l bottle shared by Saeglopur at Linz RB Tasting, big thanks. BB 08/2017. yellow cloudy color, small off-white head. smells peat, leather, spices, a bit creamy, hints of fruits. OK smell, too much rubber and peat for me though. medium to full body, soft carbonation, slick mouthfeel. tastes of peat, leather, spices, light fruits, herbs, finishes lightly bitter with light peat and herbs. Overall interesting beer, but not a fan. Smell is too intense peated / leathery, taste is better balanced, drinks OK, but not sure I need to drink this again. Overall just OK. peat notes: 4/5 (smell), 3 (taste) bitterness: 2

330 ml bottle from my EU Local Swap 4/2015 sender MrHangover, thanks!
Dark yellow, cloudy body, with a medium, fluffy, off-white head.
Aroma of spices, vanilla, orange, citrus, banana, some dried fruits, some tropical fruits.
Taste follows this, with more yeasty dough notes.
Medium, slick mouthfeel, with an average carbonation.
Finishes medium dry, spicy, yeasty, hoppy, with some pine.

Nice one. More wheaty and yeasty notes than the typical IPA aromas. The hops are more in the background. Still well balanced and really fresh and easy.

330 ml. bottle shared. GUSHER. Hugely milky orange with a small white head. Nose is hugely sour, puckering, tad lactic, big lemon, hugely smoked on top, going almost into medicinal territory. Taste is hugely phenolic, medicinal, nearly peated, puckering, very yeasty, rotting apple, leather, spoiled,… Strongly yeasty, milky body,… A bit confused here, is it meant to be like this? A bit too much for, simple but also weird, felt almost unintentional. An unlucky bottle? Too experimental for. I wanted to like this one but was a bit too much for me sadly.

Bottle at home. Murky orange golden with big fizzy white head. Tropical fruits up front, light banana, mango, orange, dough, biscuits, cake. Light lemon and herbs in the finish. Quite sweet, with herbal bitter finish. Medium bodied with strong and fizzy carbonation. Bit overcarbonated, but nice fruity IPA.

Bottle from somewhere in the Netherlands. Consumed at home Monday 16th November 2015 (my birthday) Pours black with a tan head, a slight tart, fruity, smokey nose. It’s ok but not so exciting, tastes also a little woodsmokey also. Ok. A6 A3 T6 P3 Ov12 3.0

Bottle split at Arendsnest in der Dam, 27/09/15. Pitch black topped with a decent tan swirl. Nose is peated malt but kept in check, spice, chocolate, roasty notes, tar, brown sugar. Taste comprises chocolate, more peated notes, dark fruit rinds, light spice. Full bodied, fine carbonation, lightly warming alcohol in the close. Solid stuff for a peaty number, well balanced.

Arends Nest. Bottle. Oily looking black - brown beer small tan head. Palate is somewhat viscous and has modest fine carbonation. Smooth dark malts, touches of cream and dark chocolate. A slightly skunky peat which is obvious but mercifully does not dominate. Touch of dark fruits. Smooth and semi dry finish. Decent.
