Description
Twickenham Fine Ales was the first brewery in Twickenham since Cole’s Brewery closed in 1906. In the beginning there was a 10 barrel plant which was installed in a small unit opposite a Greggs Bakery factory – pint and a pasty seeming natural bedfellows.
The early days of experimentation and trial settled down with the arrival of Tom Madeiros, as Brewer, in 2005. Being American the use of American hops seemed a natural path and Twickenham became an early adopter of the now popular and more common place hops used in many beers today.
The variety of hops grew and Twickenham now uses hops from countries including: England, Germany, Slovenia, USA, Australia and New Zealand.

500ml bottle. Gushed a clear golden colour with a big frothy, short-lived white head. The aroma is toffee caramel malt, light fruit, light woody hop. The flavour is moderate sweet light bitter with a toffee caramel, light spice, woody hop bitter palate and a lingering bitter finish. Medium bodied with average to soft carbonation. Super for the ABV.

Cask at the Hope Tap, Reading. Black with a thin beige head and a light fizz - decent condition. Heavy roast notes up front, almost an acrid note. Some blackcurrant and chocolate behind. A moderate bitterness to finish. Ok, but a little too charred for my liking

Cask at the Back of Beyond (JDW), Reading. Dark tawny brown, almost black, with a tight cream head; fruity aroma; smooth in the mouth with a fruity taste and an earthy bitterness; then a dry finish with a lingering bitterness. Rather good.

Gravity at the Little Green Dragon. A somewhat unappealing look in the glass with a strange brown colour. Not much nose and the flavour was dominated by the sweet honey. This was really not my thing and I didn't enjoy it at all because of that intense sweetness. It set my teeth on edge.
