Cask at The Claret, Addiscombe. It pours darkest brown, near black with a decent beige head. The aroma is bitter - sweet, dark chocolate, rocky road and touch of blackcurrant jam. The taste is bitter, charred wood, roasted malts, umami, liquorice, cooking chocolate, black pepper, earthy, leather and a dark fruits with a dry, slightly spicy finish. Medium body and soft carbonation. A touch spicy perhaps, but decent enough overall.

Cask gravity at the London drinker fest 2016. Clear caramel brown / ruby red coloured pour with a lasting off white head. Aroma is caramel vanilla earthy honey, brown sugars. Flavour is composed of rounded earthy honey, caramel, toffee. Hint of vanilla. Palate is smooth, slight creamy, medium bodied, low carbonation. Lingering raw honey is pretty nice.

Cask gravity at the London drinker fest 2016. Clear Ruby chestnut brown coloured pour with a lasting loose light tan head. Aroma is raw grains, burnt toast hints of caramel sweetness, dry roasted barley. Flavour is composed of semi sweet rounded caramel , nutty, hint of dried apple, dry roast. Little burnt toast. Decent depth and complexity. Palate is medium light, semi sweet, round, moderate cask condition. Solid enough.

Cask at the Hope & Champion, Beaconsfield. Poured a clear medium brown with a frothy off white head. The aroma is yeast, light sweet malt. The flavour is moderate to light bitter with a yeasty, light chocolate, light medicinal hop bitter palate. Medium bodied with soft carbonation. Not particularly well kept and not particularly enjoyable.

Cask at the Prince Arthur (JDW), Fleet. Deep chestnut with a thick beige head; spicy malt aroma; toffee taste with some gentle winter spices; and a twiggy bitterness. A pleasant but straightforward winter ale.

Cask at The Pennsylvanian (Spoons), Rickmansworth, Herts. A dark amber/brown coloured pour with a medium white head on top. Malty, caramel, fruity aroma. Tastes malty, caramel, fruity. Never been a fan of this brewery but there was little else on at the time.

Cask at the Prince Arthur (JDW), Fleet. A glossy deep mahogany colour with a ring of beige head; fruity aroma; sour cherry taste to start then developing a rich bitter chocolate body; the finish is sweeter with lingering chocolate. A rich and satisfying stout.

Cask at the Hope Tap, JDW - Reading. Pours clear honey-gold with a frothy white head. Grainy malts in the nose, some orange rind. Medium sweet flavor with grainy bread, dried fruits, leaves, faint caramel, earth, hay, citrus rind. Medium bodied with fine carbonation; good condition. Balanced finish, some toasty bread, mild caramel, ripe citrus, orange, hay. Nice beer.
