Description
St. Peter's is an independent brewery founded in 1996 by John Murphy in former agricultural buildings adjacent to St. Peter’s Hall in St Peter, South Elmham, near Bungay, Suffolk, England. Siting the brewery at St. Peter’s was ideal because of the excellent water quality from our own deep bore-hole. Locally malted barley is used, together with Kentish hops, to produce a range of classical beers (bitters, mild etc.) as well as some more unusual beers such as honey porter and fruit beer.

Fun fact: The oval shape of its signatory 500 ml bottle is based on an 18th-century gin bottle from Gibbstown, by the Delaware River near Philadelphia, USA.

Bottle: pours a clear chestnut colour with a beige head which disappears quickly; full in the mouth with a nutty caramel flavour leading to a pleasantly bitter aftertaste. An excellent bitter for its strength.

Oh man! Yuck!! One of the worst beers I’ve ever had - 2 sips, a 3rd sip for my wife just to confirm its awfulness (or maybe I just wanted someone to share in my suffering), and then down the drain! Not overly skunky in the aroma, but the flavor was pure dissolved skunk pheromone. Sulfur, vomit and hops. Sharp. I can’t comment much more than that, I didn’t feel obliged to analyze any deeper.

Bottled. Copperish golden colour with small white head. Hoppy and hayish aroma and flavour. Some slight fruity notes once it gets warmer. Not too exciting, and quite similar to many of their other products. Dry bitterness dominates the finish.

16.9 oz bottle. Poured black with thin brown head. The aroma is mostly cream soda with lesser amounts of roasted and burnt malts. The flavor starts off semi sweet with coffee, roasted malts, a sense of cream soda and the introduction to the burnt and chocolate malts that follow. The rest of the taste into the after-bit is a rather nice mixture of burnt and chocolate malts.

This Ale poured a nice black colour with a rich creamy tan head. To the nose there was roasted coffee, cocoa and a little citrus. First taste was smooth with flavours of roasted malts and a little chocolate and spice. Finish was slightly bitter with the coffee lingering. palate was burnt flavoured. Very good ale.

500ml bottle from Systembolaget. Dark mahogany brown-tinged body. Declining beige foam. Dark malty to the nose. Comprehensive taste with blend of sweet, dried fruits, tart fruits, herbs and a nutty touch. Slightly yeasty ending. Medium to full palate. A distinctive ale for the winter season (02.12.2006).
