Draught at Rogue Kitchen & Wetbar (W. Broadway), Vancouver
Cloudy blond color. Very mild aroma of citrus fruits. Dry mouthfeel, simple malt profile, strong bitterness, a bit resiny, maybe the juniper contribute s too, a bit woody/vegetable in the final.
Uneventful.

Dark color, almost black, small head. Light smoke and light roasted malt aroma. Lean mouthfeel, moderately dry, the flavor is first roasted malt, some dark chocolate, a touch of smoke, dark bread.
Nice robust Porter, with very mild smoke presence.

On tap at St. Augustine’s. Pours a clear copper. Aroma is malty and fruity. Taste is malty, caramel, with hippy (flowers) bitterness like in Czech lagers. Bready and bitter aftertaste. Quite good.

On tap at Howe Sound, pours a dark mahogany with a small beige head. Aroma is subtle, with notes of light smoke and toasted malt. Flavour is along the same lines, with notes of toasted malt, some light smoke and a little residual sweetness. Simple but well-made, with everything in balance. Decent.

On tap at Howe Sound, pours a cloudy yellow with a medium white head. Aroma brings out notes of spicy rye, citrus hops and biscuity malt. Flavour is along the same lines, with citrus hops, spicy rye, and some fruitiness. Well-balanced, crusty and spicy. Maybe a touch harsh, but it works. Good.

Bottle from Legacy. Very muddy light brown. Way too muddy for a bottled product, in particular, and not the norm for this brewery. Bubbly head is nice. The aroma shows off some duller oxidized chinook, some lemony, grapefruity brighter hops, some light rye, and a LOT of yeast. Thankfully, there’s still some brightness in the aroma to latch on to. On the palate, it’s fairly bitter, with grapefruity notes. The malts are obfuscated by the yeast. It’s a touch fizzy on the mouthfeel, and comes across a bit light for an IPA as a result. But then again, it’s not really IPA strength, either.. There’s some rye chewiness and combines with Chinook richness at the back, and thankfully the grapefruit and juniper notes parry all that chewy stuff just enough. I can definitely see this is a good idea, but more filtration would leave this a more refined product with a sharper balance on the palate.

375ml bottle. (2014 release) Pours a cloudy, dark reddish brown with a small, short lived, beige head that fully dissipates. Sweet aroma of caramel malt, bread, overripe fruit and wood. Sweet flavour of caramel malt, roasted malt, overripe fruit, bread, wood and a hint of chocolate malt with a dry, bitter, warming alcohol finish. Full body with a smooth, oily texture and soft carbonation. Very nice, a pleasant surprise.
